Mercer leads Pilgrims past Memorial

January 5, 2013

PLYMOUTH — Logic tells you that a first basketball game out of a long break will probably be a little sloppy.
And logic would be right in the case of the Plymouth Pilgrims’ Northern Lakes Conference win over Elkhart Memorial, 68-51.
While neither team struggled with execution, both struggled with being sharp in that execution as Memorial turned the ball over 18 times on the night — 11 of those in the first half — and Plymouth responded with 15 turnovers of its own.
The difference in the game, quite simply was the Pilgrims’ Mack Mercer, who didn’t seem to have taken a break at all.

Lions down LaVille in OT

BREMEN — Little did Bremen’s basketball team know when they suited up for their game with Fairfield at the Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis last week they’d be getting a dress rehearsal for Friday’s home conference match-up with LaVille.
In hind sight, it’s hard not to see that thrilling overtime win as a harbinger of the Lions’ Northern State Conference victory over the rival Lancers.

Glenn’s streak stops at 11

January 5, 2013

BOURBON — The John Glenn Lady Falcons’ 11-game win streak came to a screeching halt Friday night at the Trojan Trench, as the Triton Lady Trojans were able to defeat them in a high-intensity match-up by a score of 47-40.
Like John Glenn coach Kyle Amor said, it was a possession by possession game.
“It was a loose ball, a long rebound or a bad pass away from going our direction,” said Amor. “I know Triton and they are doing what they do best and they have a nose for the ball. Those loose balls and those long rebounds seem to find their hands before ours.”

Late charge pushes Cavs past New Prairie

January 5, 2013

Nelson Gymnasium.
