PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Fire Department responded to the scene of a grass fire Wednesday afternoon near Ivory Court, a subdivision off of Michigan Street. High gusts of wind felled a large tree near the railroad tracks, causing the tree to pull down a power line.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One local community is still reeling with the news that one of their own was involved in the latest school shooting to hit national headlines.
Shane Schumerth, 28, was a Spanish teacher at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, Fla. Tuesday, Schumerth was fired from his Spanish teaching position, and police say he returned to the campus where he fatally shot the head of the school, Dale Regan, in her office before shooting himself.
MARSHALL COUNTY — The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Marshall County, effective until 8 p.m. Sustained winds of 25-35 miles per hour with gusts of 45 mph are expected, with the highest wind gusts likely in the afternoon.
Loose objects such as trash cans should be secured or brought indoors. Large tree limbs and utility lines may break, and small trees could be uprooted. RVs, campers, and semi trailers may be difficult to drive.
LAPAZ — Residents in LaPaz had an unwelcome houseguest Friday around 2 a.m., when a 22-year-old woman wandered into their home and into their master bedroom.
Marshall County police officers as well as LaPaz fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to the home and found the woman conscious, but incoherent in the bedroom. The residents of the home told law enforcement that they had no idea who the woman was, and thought that she might be under the influence of drugs.

BOURBON — Extreme couponing. The concept popularized by the TV show of the same name made clipping coupons a nationwide craze in 2010. Bourbon resident and avid couponer Valerie Manns has never seen the show, but that fact didn't prevent her from teaching a class at the Bourbon Public Library Saturday about how to get started couponing.
PLYMOUTH — Coming into Saturday’s Wawasee Sectional, Plymouth’s gymnastics team liked its chances to advance to regionals. After junior Traci Longanecker reinjured her ankle on beam, the Lady Pilgrims’ forecast got a little dimmer.

The eighth grade Lady Red Storm had another close loss to LaPorte Boston, 20-17.
The game was a defensive battle, and Shannon Stephenson, Kara Morwood and Morgan Oberley scored six, five and five points, respectively.

MARSHALL COUNTY — Sergeant Chad Larsh from the Bremen State Police Post has announced that a sobriety checkpoint will be held in Marshall County. The checkpoint will start during the evening hours of Friday, March 9.
Motorists are asked to have their driver’s license and vehicle registrations available when entering the checkpoint. This will help minimize the amount of time spent at the checkpoint. Motorists can expect short delays of only two to three minutes.
ARGOS — Kindergarten Roundup for Argos Elementary School will be in the elementary gym between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The school will again be offering full-day kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year. For a child to be eligible for kindergarten he/she must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2012.

PLYMOUTH — Marshall County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director Clyde Avery is prepared to assist with southern Indiana disaster relief, if needed.
Avery mentioned in the county commissioners meeting Monday that he had received a call from a district task force Saturday, warning him that he might be deployed to the lower part of the state following the tornados that wrecked havoc on several towns in the area.
