NSC Tourney begins
Jimtown went 5-0, while conference co-leaders Bremen and Triton both opened 3-0 in the first round of Northern State Conference Tennis Tournament play at DeSantis Courts in Bremen Thursday.
Jeff Ross won at 1 singles, Jared Fisher won at 3 singles, and Darren Harrell and Jake Oldham won at 2 doubles for the Trojans, all in straight sets.
Brad Foster was a winner at 1 singles, Jalen Bayer won at 2 singles, and Nate Strehler and Joe Zeltwanger won at 1 doubles for the Lions.
WALKERTON - Thereâs a crisp bite in the air and that means the onset of fall in the area and with that John Glenn High Schoolâs Falloween Festival.
âOne of our objectives is to raise money for scholarships,â said William Morton, Principal at Glenn High School. âIt also allows many of our school organizations to raise money for their activities. Those organizations also donate a portion of what they make to the scholarship fund. I think in the past two years weâve been able to give away around $50,000 in scholarships.â
There is also another purpose to the celebration.
An Argos man who was jailed Monday and accused of having more than 80 âone potâ meth labs was released the same night due to what the Marshall County Prosecutorâs office called a miscommunication on paperwork.
Robert Swan Bowen, 32, of 116 Broadway St., Argos, was arrested along with David William Boone Cottrell, 24, Muckshaw Road, Plymouth Monday night.
Bowen was charged with dealing/delivering/manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
However, because the paperwork wasnât in order, no bond was set and Bowen was allowed to leave.

Fridayâs game at Culver Military may represent a break from conference play, but John Glenn certainly isnât taking it lightly.
The Eagles are in the midst of a strong 3-2 season with a signature win over Lafayette Central Catholic in Week 4 and have yet to be beaten at home in two tries so far. And with lopsided losses the last two seasons against Glenn, theyâll be looking for payback against the Falcons (3-2) this Friday.
PLYMOUTH â Coming off a big conference win Tuesday night, Plymouthâs volleyball team wanted to avoid a letdown against non-conference foe Bremen Wednesday.
The Lady Pilgrims took care of business, fighting off the Lions in a nip-tuck third set to put away the visitors in three games at home at The Rock, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20.

Plymouth starts NLC tourney 4-1
Plymouthâs boys tennis team got off to a 4-1 start in the opening round of the Northern Lakes Conference Tournament Wednesday at Concord.
Gabe Vervynckt beat Warsawâs Kyle Wettschurak 6-4, 6-0 at 1 singles and John Hunter defeated Northridgeâs Jed Miller, 6-2, 6-1 at 3 singles, while Plymouthâs 1 doubles tandem of Kendall Fosler and Jack Holloway trumped Northridgeâs Andrew Gingerich and Bryan Slabach in three sets at 2 doubles, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.

Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman visited the J.W. Hicks facilities in Knox Tuesday as part of her Hoosier Crossroads Tour. Skillman, who is nearing the end of her second term as Indianaâs lieutenant governor, has been very active in her support of economic development and the growth of Indiana businesses.
The Hoosier Crossroads Tour, which started in July 2011, will take her to all 92 counties in Indiana visiting local businesses and meeting with local officials. Before coming to Knox, she traveled to Pulaski County to tour Fratco, a plastic drainage pipe manufacturer in Francesville.
ROCHESTER â Roy Bell, of Rochester, will be in Fulton Superior Court Tuesday for his alleged role in the Nov. 22 shooting death of Wilma Upsall, 81, a former Knox resident, during a robbery that Bell and two other men, William Scroggs, of Delong, and Jason Miller of Plymouth, allegedly committed.
Bell is looking at a possible death sentence if convicted of shooting Upsall last November at her daughterâs home near Leiterâs Ford.
PLYMOUTH â Itâs Homecoming week at PHS, and when the festivities finally turn to football, it will likely be anything but social on the field.
Northern Lakes Conference foe Wawasee comes to town sporting a 2-3 record and a little history when it comes to the Rockies.
âTheyâve beaten us five times since Iâve been head coach here â thatâs more than anybody else we play,â said Plymouth coach John Barron. âIâd actually forgotten that stat until somebody pointed it out to me this weekend. Theyâve gotten the best of us the last two years. Theyâre well coached and they seem to have our number.â
WALKERTON â Tuesdayâs volleyball match at John Glenn was a race to see who would break into the conference win column first.
Culver seized the momentum early, winning the first game 25-18, but the host Lady Falcons quickly reversed the tide, jumping out to big leads in the second and third games on the way to 25-8 and 25-15 wins. The Cavaliers got back in the match midway through the fourth set, but it was a case of too little, too late, and Glenn earned its first Northern State Conference win, 18-25, 25-8, 25-15, 25-21 at home at The Aerie.
