BREMEN — While the final score may have ended up the same as the two teams’ first meeting earlier this month, Wednesday’s Bremen Sectional opener between the host Lions and Triton was anything but a foregone conclusion.
PLYMOUTH — It’s rivalry week.
The first of several really — at least for Plymouth’s Rockies as they travel to Concord for what has become one of the most heated confrontations of the Northern Lakes Conference season. There is no love lost between these two teams on the field and while Plymouth comes into the game with three straight impressive wins, Concord had its perfect season upset with a stunning loss to Jimtown last week 48-0.

Eagles, Bluejays advance at CMA Sectional
Host Culver Military Academy beat Knox on all five courts, and North Judson topped Rochester in another 5-0 match to set up tonight’s CMA Boys Tennis Sectional championship Wednesday.
The Eagles, who are looking for their ninth straight sectional crown and are two-time defending regional champions, surrendered just three games to Knox on all but the 2 doubles court, where Damon Ritchie and Curtis Scherer extended Arturo Lizaragga and Jorge Segura to 12 games in the first set before succumbing 7-5, 6-1.
GROVERTOWN — A Pierceton man is dead following an early morning collision Wednesday morning in Grovertown.
Steve Mort, Pierceton, died Wednesday after the vehicle he was in struck a semi carrying a wind turbine propeller.
Starke County dispatch received a call about the collision around 6:11 a.m. CST.
When first responders arrived, they found that a semi hauling a wind turbine propeller was exiting the Grovertown Truck Stop, headed east on U.S. 30.
According to police, the semi’s load stretched across the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 and part of the eastbound lanes.

MARSHALL CO. — Dog owners will have the chance to show off their animals Oct. 7, during the Marshall County Humane Society’s annual “Bark in the Park.”
Bark in the Park is a fundraiser for the shelter. A minimum pledge of $25 is required to enter, but participants can collect additional pledges. There is a prize for the person who collects the most money for the shelter.
There are also several contests that dog owners can enter. New this year is the “Cutest Puppy” award.

ARGOS — Wilma I. McMichael, 69, of Argos died Sept. 22, 2012 at 2:04 p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center – Plymouth following a brief illness.
She is survived by sons, Richard (Sherry) McMichael of Plymouth, Edwin McMichael of Argos, and James McMichael of Argos; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Earl (Toni) Newton of Wisconsin; and sisters, Muriel Hartgrave of Streamwood, Ill.; Claudia (Mitchell) Thomas of Ora.

ARGOS — Lloyd Ringer of Blairsville, Ga. died Monday evening, Aug. 27, 2012 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Ga.
Lloyd was born Feb. 3, 1929 in Argos to Alfred and Goldie Ringer. He graduated from Culver High School and Aug. 24, 1947 he married Elnora F. Dille.
Thomas A. Cashen
Feb. 21, 1928-Sept. 25, 2012
PLYMOUTH — Thomas A. Cashen, 84, of Plymouth, passed away at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Hospice House, South Bend. He was born Feb. 21, 1928 in Mishawaka to Sylvester and Vera (Vida) Cashen. Nov. 18, 1950 in LaPaz, he married the former Joan Swartz.
PLYMOUTH — With tennis sectional play beginning tonight, Tuesday’s regular season-closer between Plymouth and Culver Military gave both squads a chance to hone their focus headed into the state tournament.
Plymouth looks for its 16th straight title as it faces John Glenn in a Bremen Sectional semifinal Thursday, while CMA begins the hunt for a ninth straight championship when it opens the tournament at home tonight against Knox.
As the 19th Annual IHSAA State Soccer Tournaments open, three area teams will be playing host to sectional fields next week.
In the boys tournament, Plymouth hosts a five-team Class 2A field, while Culver hosts a Class A Sectional 41 field that includes Argos, Culver and Bremen.
