PLYMOUTH — Sherrie Martin, Marshall County Blueberry Festival Coordinator, recently announced this year’s parade winners.
“(The parade) went off without a hitch and we got a lot of complements on it,” commented Martin.
The theme for the parade this year was “A World of Possibilities.”
PLYMOUTH — This spring, local soldiers from the Plymouth National Guard 301st MP unit will be coming home from a deployment that began in January 2012.
Angela Drake, wife of Plymouth resident Sergeant Scott Drake, is heading up an effort to throw a “thank you” party for the soldiers in March.
“We don’t know exactly when they are coming home, but they will all be home by the time we have the party,” said Drake.
Since Drake is a busy mom with her two sons Colton, 2, and Kamdon, 5 months, she is enlisting help.
MARSHALL CO. — According to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), toxins produced by blue-green algae are not a problem in Marshall County lakes.
However, some citizens feel differently.
One of them, Joe Toth of Bremen, visited the Marshall County commissioners meeting Tuesday to ask commissioners to fund further testing of county lakes.
“I’m here to address some concerns…and to show you that there are problems in our lakes,” said Toth Tuesday.
ARGOS — Coming into Thursday’s showdown at Eugene Snyder Field, both Argos and Culver Girls Academy had won close matches with South Bend Trinity to start Northern Indiana Soccer Conference play. The winner of Thursday’s tilt would grab the conference favorite role.
The Lady Dragons and Eagles battled through a scoreless first half with only five shots on goal between the teams. Jami Patterson finally broke the stalemate on a Lillie Kozuch through ball midway through the second half, and Argos made it stand up for the 1-0 NISC victory.
Plymouth bounces back
Plymouth bounced back from a tough loss to Argos Wednesday with a 4-1 win on the road in Caston.
The Rockies found themselves trailing early, but Kyle Vanlue scored a pair of goals in the 23rd and 27th minutes to give the visitors a 2-1 edge at the half.
Joe Smith scored twice in the second half to lift the score to its final margin.
Kyle Barry and Eduardo Mayen both registered assists for Plymouth, which improved to 3-5-3 on the year.
