Duet becomes trio of weapons for Rockies in rout of Wawasee

September 22, 2012

PLYMOUTH — Friday night Plymouth’s Rockies wrote their own lyrics to an old Paul McCartney hit from the 1980’s, “With a little Drudge we can make this whole darn thing work out.”
Plymouth got more than a little from talented sophomore running back Justin Drudge in a 53-14 homecoming win over Wawasee. He had the night of his short career so far, scoring touchdowns the first three times he touched the ball, ending the night with four scores, 112 yards on just six carries, catching two passes for another 78 yards and recording another 45 yards on a kick return.

Lions spoil Lancer Homecoming, 42-15

LAKEVILLE — It would take some creative math to make LaVille’s first-half numbers add up to a win. In the end, the Lancers couldn’t.
Zero first downs. Negative 12 net offensive yards. Five turnovers, all before the intermission.
Bremen’s defense won the battle for field position again and again, and the opportunistic Lions capitalized on five LaVille turnovers in the first half to run out to a 42-0 lead at the break, eventually handing the host Lancers a 42-15 Homecoming night spoiler.

Eagles master the art of the big play in 20-7 win over Glenn

September 22, 2012

CULVER — If “The Art of the Big Play” was a class taught at Culver Academies, all the football players would get an “A”.
After all, the Eagles raised big plays to an art form Friday during their 20-7 victory over John Glenn.
A fake punt in the third quarter turned into a 59-yard touchdown run for CMA’s Joel Tinney. Matt Neufeldt intercepted two Glenn passes. Aramonti Phillips spun away from tacklers and raced 76 yards for a touchdown as time expired in the third quarter.

Results 9-22

Culver goes to the air in comeback win at Knox
The passing attack of Culver accounted for three second half touchdowns to lead the Cavaliers over Knox Friday night 25-24.
The Cavaliers trailed 17-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
Colin Stevens hit Micah Budzinski from nine yards out then on a 67-yard bomb with 2:22 left in the game to pull Culver to within two at 24-23.
Rather than go for the tie, Stevens hit Trent Elliott on a two-point conversion to give Culver its first lead of the game.
The Cavalier defense then held strong to seal the Northern State Conference win.
