PLYMOUTH â The tone was set early and reinforced often as Plymouthâs Rockies got a home win against Northern Lakes Conference foe Elkhart Memorial 35-6.
Plymouth had lost its last five home games going back to the 2011 season but dominated a conference opponent to pick up its first home win of the new season. It could be said that the game was pretty well decided in the first possessions for each team.
BREMEN â Bremenâs Eric Knepper experienced quite the eventful night Friday.
The junior running back/linebacker stretched across the goal line for the go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter â his third score of the game â exited with leg cramps after that score, and returned in time to record a game-saving sack in the Lionsâ 32-28 Northern State Conference football win over Culver Community at Don Bunge Field.
WALKERTON â John Glenn football coach Justin Bogunia knew his young team would be facing a learning curve at the start of the season.
The Falcons seem to be clicking now.
Glenn reeled off its third straight win Friday night, using a balanced offense and a stingy defense to hand Triton a 39-7 Northern State Conference loss at home.
KNOX â Knox got its first win of the year in dominating fashion by defeating LaVille 41-0 at home Friday night.
Not only did the Redskins shut out the visitors, but they held the Lancer offense to 92 total yards. It was the kind of win that head coach Chris McGowen had been waiting for.
âWe finally came out and played the way we are capable of playing,â he said. âIt helps when you have everyone who is supposed to be there there. First week all year where we had all 11 starters on offense and all 11 starters on defense.â
LAPORTE â John Glennâs girls golf team celebrated its new sectional alignment with a runner-up finish at the LaPorte Sectional Friday.
The Lady Falcons trumped New Prairie on a tiebreaker to finish second with a 422 team score behind meet champion Hanover Centralâs 408 at Beechwood in their first year at the LaPorte tourney after making the move from the Penn Sectional last year. Glenn now moves on to the Lafayette Jefferson Regional next Saturday, Sept. 22 at Battle Ground.
