Park board debates merits of pier styles

From 1 to 5 p.m., attendees may Sample offerings from five of Indiana’s finest wineries while relaxing to live music by Chad Van Herk and Kent Arnberger on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee.

Knox teen to be remembered at rodeo

GROVERTOWN — An event in Grovertown will have a somber feel among all the cheers and excitement as a fallen Knox teen will be remembered.
Taylor Wagner had a lot of interests. Perhaps chief among them was horses according to Laura Saylor.
Saylor and her family put on the Saylor’s Arena Grovertown Rodeo every September.
They hold another each June which Wagner was a part of.
Wagner was friend’s with Laura’s daughter Shanena Saylor. The two became friends in Starke County 4-H together.

Mishawaka man ID'd in hotel death

BREMEN — Marshall County Coroner William Cleavenger released the name of the 43-year-old man found dead in a room at the Bremen Inn in Bremen at approximately 9:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.
David S. Miller, 43, of Mishawaka was found dead in his room Wednesday night after another guest had gone to Miller’s room to talk with him.
An autopsy was conducted Thursday in Misawaka by Dr. Joseph Prahlow, a board certified Forensic Pathologist, who could find no evidence of foul play.

Pilgrims clinch NLC win vs Goshen

PLYMOUTH — After a pair of tough conference losses to Warsaw and Concord, every win in the NLC is a big win for Plymouth’s boys tennis team.
The Pilgrims stayed competitive in the Northern Lakes Conference standings with a 4-1 defeat of visiting Goshen at home Thursday.

Rockies soccer draws 1-1 at Memorial

ELKHART — Plymouth’s boys soccer team gave up a late goal to Elkhart Memorial, and the Rockies were forced to settle for a 1-1 Northern Lakes Conference tie on the road Thursday.
It was the second straight game where a late letdown wound up costing Plymouth after CMA handed the Rockies a narrow 2-1 loss Tuesday.

CGA lacrosse standout Rabbitt commits to inaugural Elon team

CULVER — As Elon University looks to build a women’s lacrosse program, the Phoenix will have the help of Culver Girls Academy standout Olivia Rabbitt.
Rabbitt, an Annapolis, Maryland native, has committed to play NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse at Elon and will be a part of the inaugural team with competition beginning in the spring of 2014 under coach Josh Hexter, former associate head coach at Duke.

Lady Dragons halt Elkhart Christian streak, 2-1

ELKHART — The Elkhart Christian Academy girls soccer team has begun its first year in the Northern Indiana Soccer Conference with a bang, riding a four-game win streak into Thursday’s match with Argos.
But the defending NISC-champion Lady Dragons snapped the streak, scoring two goals in the first half and holding on for a 2-1 victory on the road Thursday.

Lady Trojans fall short
Triton came up short in a tough five-setter to visiting Bethany Christian Thursday night at the Trojan Trench, 25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 26-28, 15-12.
Shana Anderson tallied 13 kills with five blocks and five digs, while Breanna Lemler finished with eight kills and five blocks.
Marissa Ross recorded 26 assists and three aces, and Casey Scott led the Trojans in digs with seven.
