County resolves decade-old money mistake

MARSHALL CO. — Due to a mistake back in 2000, Starke County has owed Marshall and Pulaski counties a year’s worth of collections for a drain shared by the three counties since that year.
Kevin Overmyer, Marshall County commissioner, Kathy Norem, Starke County commissioner, and Mike Tiede, Pulaski County commissioner called a joint drainage board meeting Wednesday to officially resolve the matter.
“Basically, according to all the records, we missed the first year of collections (for the drain), in the year of 2000,” said Dennis Estok, Starke County surveyor.

Plymouth falls 2-0 to Tigers

PLYMOUTH — It wasn’t a win, but there were plenty of positives for Plymouth to take away from its 2-0 loss to Warsaw Thursday, and it was those positives that the Rockies focused on in the huddle after the game.
After giving up a pair of goals in the opening 19 minutes, Plymouth played the Class 2A, No. 3-ranked Tigers to a 0-0 draw for the remaining 60-plus minutes. But the Rockies were unable to mount a real threat against the visitors, and they fell in a 2-0 Northern Lakes Conference-opening loss to Warsaw at Kindt Field.

Lady Rockies top Westview, 4-2

PLYMOUTH — After sustaining an emotional conference loss to Warsaw Tuesday and facing a long layover next week, it was important for Plymouth’s girls soccer team to bounce back quickly Thursday.
Bounce back the Lady Rockies did, handing visiting Westview a 4-2 loss to head into the break with something to feel good about.

Plymouth rallies past Knox
Plymouth rallied from a 2-1 deficit at Knox Thursday to top the host Lady Redskins for a nip-tuck victory, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 16-14.
Amber Redinger put in a strong net game with 17 kills and five blocks, while Andria Shook finished with 13 kills, and Hunter Stevens put up six blocks.
Haley Harrell finished with 31 assists and two aces, while Mikayla German recorded 12 digs and Emily Eveland finished with 11 for the Pilgrims, who moved to an even 2-2 on the year.

Argos edges Trinity, 1-0

ARGOS — The Argos girls soccer team opened Northern Indiana Soccer Conference (NISC) play with a 1-0 win over visiting Trinity Thursday.
The evenly matched game featured Argos with a 10-9 edge in shots on goal and Trinity with an 8-4 lead in corner kicks. The game-winner came from 2011 All-State forward Jami Patterson on an assist from Katie Williams midway through the second half.

Donnelly and Bayh come 'home' as part of campaign tour

PLYMOUTH — Running for political office can be a long lonely road but Senate hopeful Joe Donnelly has found a traveling friend for the past few days in former Indiana Senator and Governor Evan Bayh.
Friends for the past 26 years - the two have embarked on a two day, five community trip down main street Indiana. The tour began with stops in Indianapolis, Speedway and Terre Haute yesterday and between trips to Fort Wayne and East Chicago the pair stopped for lunch in Plymouth at Opie's Deli.

Mega Pass sales for fest down from last year

PLYMOUTH — More than 500 local children are ready for unlimited fun Labor Day weekend, as they have in their possession the much-desired Mega Pass.
This pass, sold by the Marshall County Blueberry Festival office, is an all-you-can-ride ticket to every attraction offered by All Star Amusement, the festival’s contracted carnival. Although sales of the pass generally increase around this time of year due to a reduced early bird price, festival board member Larry Faulstich reported at a board meeting Monday that the office has sold 100 fewer passes than the same time last year.

Plymouth FOP ride is Saturday

PLYMOUTH — For the fifth year, motorcycle riders from several Indiana counties will be riding together to raise funds for the many programs of the Plymouth FOP Lodge 195. Despite a downpour of rain last year, 63 undaunted riders raised some $6,000-$7,000.

Rockies try to get defensive in Week 2 match-up at Rochester

PLYMOUTH — The saying is that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and if it bears any truth Plymouth’s Rockies should soon be flexing their muscles.
A week ago suspensions to several key Rockie starters gave their young replacements a total of two days to prepare for an outstanding Bremen football team. Another week of practice will help, but hitting the road to face Rochester Friday is another tough task.
