Boys tennis
Bremen beats NorthWood
Bremen moved to an even 3-3 on the season with a 4-1 win over host NorthWood Monday.
The Lions trumped the Panthers on all courts by 2 singles, where Quinn Stillson beat Jalen Bayer 6-4, 6-3.
While all matches were decided in straight sets, the meet saw competitive scores on all courts, including a 7-6, 6-4 win at 1 doubles by Joe Zeltwanger and Nate Strehler over Jayson Linhart and Brennan Angle.
NorthWood remains winless at 0-6 with the defeat.

UPDATE: Former Knox basketball coach arrested for child seduction

KNOX — According to a probable cause affidavit, a Knox Middle School teacher is accused of fathering a child with a former student.
In charging documents through the Starke County Prosecutor's office, Todd Boldy, 39, Knox is accused by a former student who he is alleged to have a sexual relationship with, of also fathering her now 2-year-old son.
Boldry was booked into Starke County Jail Friday and charged with child seduction and official misconduct. Both are D felony charges.

Argos man killed on mo-ped

ARGOS — Jack R. Moriarty, of Argos, was killed at 7:36 Saturday evening when his mo-ped left the roadway near the 8600 block of 19th Road in Argos.
Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger reported that Moriarty was not wearing a helmet and was killed instantly when the moped struck a farm fence post. Moriarty was ejected from the bike at impact.
The accident remains under investigation and toxicology reports are pending. The accident was investigated by the Argos Police Department and the Marshall County Police Department. Also assisting were Argos Fire and EMS Departments.

Algae toxins not a problem in county lakes

MARSHALL CO. — Early in August, volunteers recruited by the Marshall County Lakes and Waters Council took samples from county lakes so that the water could be tested for toxins caused by blue-green algae.
Wednesday, Cyndi Wagner from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) visited the MCLWC meeting in order to address the findings and explain the blue-green algae.
“What I can tell you is that these levels are all very low,” said Wagner to those gathered at the Marshall County Building Wednesday evening.

Lions lose at Horseshoe Classic

INDIANAPOLIS — The loss of their star running back left Bremen reeling early. A disastrous third quarter spelled the Lions’ undoing.
Bremen surrendered two scores and the lead in an error-filled third frame, ultimately falling 21-7 to Tippecanoe Valley at the Horseshoe Hall of Fame Classic at Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday.

Lady Dragons finish second at Argos Girls Soccer Tourney

ARGOS — The Lady Dragons couldn’t hold on to an initial lead, falling 3-1 to Munster in the Argos Girls Soccer Invitational championship Saturday, while LaVille beat NorthWood 1-0 in the consolation match for third place.
Argos’ Raelynn LaFrance gave the Dragons the lead in the championship on an assist from Shelby Sanders in the 22nd minute, but Munster’s Cayla Bales hit a long range snipe from 35 yards to tie it the very next minute.

LaVille breaks streak
with rout of Trinity Lutheran
Levi Lucas rumbled for 147 yards and four touchdowns in each of his carries as the Lancers broke a 14-game losing streak with a 56-14 rout of visiting Trinity Lutheran Saturday at home.
Lucas scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, and Josh Dudeck added another as the Lancers jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter in the first game of the series.

WALKERTON — Ronald August Savoie, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 in South Bend at the home of his son and daughter-in law.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie; two sons, Roger Savoie of South Bend and Randy Savoie of Grovertown; two sisters, Sister Luciene Savoie and Sister Mary Savoie, both of Concordia, Kan.; two brothers, Cloment Savoie of Rudyard, Mich. and Peter Savoie of North Dakota; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

CGA’s Miracle takes silver at Cadet World Championships

BAKU, Azerbaijan — Culver Girls Academy junior Kayla Miracle of Bloomington won the silver medal at 56 kg/123.25 lbs. on the first day of women’s freestyle wrestling at the FILA Cadet World Championships Thursday.
Miracle had a 3-1 record during her competition, capturing her first three bouts to earn a spot in the finals. She opened by pinning Naveen Naveen of India, then stopped 2011 Cadet World bronze medalist Ekaterina Myagkova of Russia, 4-1, 4-0. In the semifinals, Miracle defeated Alyona Kolesnik of Azerbaijan, 1-0, 3-0.
