PLYMOUTH — Josephine Skala, 97, of Plymouth, died at 3:28 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at her home. 
She is survived by her daughter, Joann Stratton of Plymouth; her son, George Skala, Jr. of Lincoln, Ala.; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister.
There will be a private memorial service will be held at a later date. 
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

PLYMOUTH — Dr. Susan Alice Bardwell, 48, beloved mother, wife and pediatrician passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 25, 2012. Susan was born Aug. 2, 1964, in Hillsdale, Mich., to Larry Allen Hoedema and Barbara Joan Hoedema. She is survived by both parents, her husband, Michael Keith Bardwell, and children Ian Edward Allen Bardwell and Hayden Michael Lawrence Bardwell. She is also survived by a sister, Lisa Ann Freigang, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

PLYMOUTH — Junior “Kike” Fisher died Friday at Bremen Health Care Center. He is survived by sisters, Rosemary (Jack) Willett of Lakeville, and Marilyn (Ralph) Gerding of Mishawaka. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville, where visitation will be two hours prior. Contributions may be made to Center for Hospice. PLYMOUTH — Dorothy C. Schmelter, 92, a River Walk resident in Plymouth since 2006, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at 8:28 a.m. in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center – Plymouth Campus of natural causes. Dorothy was a former resident of Hobart.
Dorothy was born in Boone, Iowa March 14, 1920.
She graduated from Hobart High School in 1938. She then completed Beauty College and worked as a hairdresser for 30 years. Much of that time was at Mr. Jerry’s Beauty Shop in Miller where she was also the manager.

LOGANSPORT — Robert R. Martin, 86, Logansport, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, in the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette.
Born July 2, 1926, in Plymouth, he was the son of Ralph and Alice May (Camp) Martin.
July 29, 1945, in Indianapolis, he was married to Wanda E. Earles Martin, who preceded him in death. Wanda and Robert spent 63 wonderful years together.
Robert served his country in Germany during WWII as a member of the U.S. Army.

NAPPANEE — Paul E. Keys, 69, of Nappanee, died Thursday morning at 12:45 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.
Surviving are daughters, Paula Nolan, Janei Pickens, Antoinette Keys, all of Nappanee, and Ronda (Eddie) Carter of Plymouth; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. The funeral service will be Monday, at 1:30 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Union Cemetery with Military Graveside services.

Birthday jump a piece of cake for 84-year-old 'Handsome Harry'

PLYMOUTH — For his 84th birthday, a man who claims his name is “Handsome Harry” decided to celebrate in an unusual way. He wanted to skydive.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, ever since my son did it,” said Beechler. He and his wife, Dolores, went in a hot air balloon when they were first married and that was enough for Dolores.
“I would never do this,” she said. “But it was no shock when he told me he wanted to skydive. He’s very adventurous.”

Uceny to make appearance Saturday

PLYMOUTH — Fans and friends of Olympic track star Morgan Uceny have an opportunity to meet and greet the Plymouth native this Saturday during the Marshall County Blueberry Festival.
Uceny, two-time national champion in the women’s 1,500-meter run, will speak briefly and sign autographs at the Plymouth Amphitheater, starting at 2 p.m. WNDU sports anchor Angelo DiCarlo will emcee the event.
Uceny, a 2003 Plymouth High School graduate, has just returned from her training camp in Italy, where she went following the London Olympics.
