PLYMOUTH — Betty J. Grossman, 84, of Plymouth, passed away at 4:05 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, in Plymouth.
Jack L. Moriarty
April 1, 1966-Aug. 25, 2012
ARGOS — Jack Lewis Moriarty, 46, of Argos passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012.
Jack was born April 1, 1966, the son of John (Janice Collins) Moriarty in Plymouth.
Jack was a talented carpenter, working at Mike’s Construction in Argos. He was an avid fisherman and dearly loved by his family. He will be terribly missed.
Max L. Nifong

WARSAW — Max L. Nifong, 77, of Warsaw passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 at 5:50 p.m. at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester surrounded by his loving family.
Culver EMS director Chuck Dilts handed the town council a letter of resignation last Tuesday, and discussion ensued as to some specifics of the leadership stepping into his stead.
After updating the council at its August 28 meeting on the status of several new members of the department, who recently completed final exams with good scores, Dilts said his departure as head of the service -- a post he's held for several varying years -- is "hard for me.
MARSHALL CO. — The National Weather Service has issued a weather statement for Marshall County warning of the potential for heavy rainfall this weekend from the remnants of Isaac. Rainfall amounts exceeding 4 inches or more are possible. The heavy rainfall will likely lead to localized flooding especially in low lying areas and ponding on road surfaces.
Stay safe during flood conditions by remembering these safety tips:
1. Monitor the weather conditions and listen for potential warnings.
2. If flooding occurs, get to higher ground.
The fifth annual Lake Maxinkuckee Film FestiÂval, “A Gift of Warmth,†will feature two nights of films and fun, beginning with a Friday night recepÂtion for sponsors of the event. Included will be live music, dinner under the stars, and a film comÂpetition featuring Purdue and Notre Dame student film-makers, who will inÂtroduce their creations.
BOURBON — Teams throughout the area open their conference schedules this week, and two of them — Triton and Culver — are not only looking to open up their Northern State Conference slate with a win, but are still searching for their first victories of the season.
Triton has been right in both of its losses to Caston and Northfield, while Culver Community has found itself on the wrong end of some surprisingly lopsided losses to West Central and South Central (Union Mills).
LAKEVILLE — LaVille’s girls soccer team started the season with hopes of a repeat Northern State Conference championship.
They’re off to a pretty good start.
The Lady Lancers took care of business quickly against visiting John Glenn Wednesday, jumping out to a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the match en route to a 5-0 halftime lead and eventual 6-0 victory over the Falcons at Newton Park.
They remain unblemished in conference play at 3-0 with the win.

Plymouth wins in 3
Plymouth’s volleyball team earned a lopsided three-game victory on the road at Riley Wednesday night, 25-8, 25-11, 25-13.
Amber Redinger finished with nine kills and six blocks at the net for the Lady Pilgrims, while Andria Shook tallied nine kills and 11 digs.
Haley Harrell served up 24 assists and Emily Eveland registered eight digs for Plymouth, which approached .500 at 4-5 on the season.

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Aquatics Club is hosting a Pre Stomp Blueberry Festival Spaghetti Supper on Sunday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Council 1975 in Plymouth. The supper will feature special guest speaker Brenda Uceny, mother of Olympian Morgan Uceny.
The supper is an all-you-can-eat pasta with homemade sauce, bread and dessert to raise funds for the Plymouth Aquatics Club for training equipment/facilities and scholarships for athletes.
