DELONG — Shari Kirkland, 48, of Tippecanoe Shores, near Delong, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away, at 12:30 p.m., Aug. 16, in her home.
Shari Lynn Koehne Kirkland was born Sept. 6, 1963 in Hammond, the precious daughter of Robert and Marion Lotz Koehne. Growing up she shared her childhood with three wonderful sisters. Shari was a graduate of North Newton High School of Morocco.

Baker Street Bridge work done, ready for festival

PLYMOUTH — With Blueberry Festival time fast approaching Plymouth's Baker Street will become one of the busiest city streets around.
With safety in mind the Marshall County Highway Department has completed some maintenance to the Baker Street Bridge.
"We took some boards off the sidewalk portion and replaced them with new boards and new nuts and bolts," said Marshall County Highway Superintendent Neal Haeck. "We replaced them with better quality wood so hopefully these will last a little longer."

Eberly resigns as UW president

MARSHALL CO. — Chris Eberly, president of the United Way of Marshall County board, resigned Monday effective immediately.
Eberly came on as president in January 2011, replacing former president Rick Kreps, who also resigned.
“During my term…we have encountered a degree of changes, that I truly believe are all for the better,” said Eberly in his letter of resignation to the board Monday.
Eberly said that his position at Teacher’s Credit Union is expanding and he will be moving to St. Joseph County in the near future.

Lions prep for big stage at Lucas Oil, Week 2 gets under way

INDIANAPOLIS — Bremen has hit the big time.
The Lions will have the unique opportunity to play at the home of the Indianapolis Colts this week as they look to move to 2-0 against Tippecanoe Valley at the Horseshoe Hall of Fame Classic Saturday.
Kick-off for the Bremen-Tippy Valley game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. following the event opener between South Putnam and Tri-West at noon. Danville and Crawfordsville will follow at 5 p.m., and the nightcap between Indianapolis Scecina Memorial and Speedway is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Plymouth boys soccer earns first win with blowout at Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY — After surrendering a late goal in a draw at Rochester last week, Plymouth’s boys soccer team was determined not to let it happen again at Whitko Tuesday.
The Rockies scored four goals within the first 10 minutes and kept their foots on the gas in a 10-0 blowout of the host Wildcats to earn their first win of the season.

Volleyball
Plymouth earns 1st win
Plymouth’s volleyball team earned its first win of the season, beating host LaVille on the road Tuesday 25-20, 23-25, 25-11, 25-15.
Marissa German pounded out 14 kills, and Amber Redinger put down 12 to go with four blocks and 12 digs.
Haley Harrell handed out 35 assists to her Lady Pilgrims teammates, and Andria Shook finished with 15 digs and a pair of aces.
Kyla Koblentz recorded an impressive 57 digs for the Lady Lancers, who were led by Kelsey Gurtner’s five kills and two blocks, as well as five assists from Lauren Hostrawser.
