Hirschy takes over at Riverside

PLYMOUTH — A new principal for Riverside Intermediate School will be moving into the office as the new school year gears up, but the move will just be from one side of the building to the other.
Jeni Hirschy, current assistant principal, was named principal during the school board meeting Tuesday. Hirschy replaces outgoing Principal Donna Burroughs who has accepted a position with Triton Schools as superintendent.

CULVER — Excessive temperatures last weekend forced a rare cancellation of Culver Summer Schools’ annual Moonlight Serenade — or, to be more prescise, the event was “postponed,” according to Culver Upper Camp assistant director Emily Ryman, who announced the postponement Saturday night.
“Due to the extreme heat conditions aboard the Ledbetter,” she wrote, including “steel hull boat which has been baking in the 100 degree sun for the past four days...we have cancelled the Moonlight Serenade for this evening. We hope to re-schedule it for a later date.”

Bids opened for control system; Davidson says new video installed

PLYMOUTH — Bids were opened for the Influent Headworks Control System as the city council’s board of public works and safety met Monday evening.
Five bids were received and opened. All five met the requirements as follows: Form 96 was signed and completed; addenda were received; a financial statement was attached; a bid bond was attached; and the E-Verify affidavit was included.

BREMEN — Joseph R. Blakley, 67, of Bremen, went peacefully to be with Jesus Sunday, July 8, 2012 at his home. He was born Feb. 5, 1945 to Harold and Ruth (Jones) Blakley in Adrian, Mich. He married Sylvia Roebuck July 2, 1966.
Joseph honorably served his country in Vietnam. He worked for Universal Bearings in Bremen for more than 13 years. Joseph was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Bremen. He was also an avid golfer.

OCALA, Fla. — Joan Faust went to be with her Lord June 29, 2012. She was raised in Plymouth, where she graduated from Plymouth High School in 1949. Joan was a resident of Ocala, Fla. Her husband Richard Faust Sr. preceded her in death February, 2003, also a sister Ellen Bauman Rosebaum passed away in 1985, brothers Michael and Howard Bauman 2008 and Laurence Bauman 2009.
Surviving is a stepson, Richard Faust Jr., his wife, Estella Faust; grandchildren, Cynthia and Karen Faust and a great-grandson, Jaden Florence all from Ocala, Fla.

New guidelines for medication disposal released

MARSHALL CO. — The Marshall County Solid Waster Management has taken yet another step to collect prescription and non-prescription medications so that they can be disposed of properly.
New bins for collections have been placed at the Marshall County Jail in Plymouth and at the Bremen and Culver Police Departments.

Triton art students take trip to Europe

BOURBON — Eight Triton High School art club students recently took a nine-day trip to Europe with their teacher, Diane Westphal. They visited Paris, Milan, Florence, Pisa, and Rome, checking out famous art and architecture along the way.
“The plane ride itself was an experience,” said one student, Ethan Yazel. “The eight-hour flight was a little tedious but it was worth it once we got to Paris.”
Yazel said that his favorite sights on the trip included the many old buildings.

Plymouth's Mann chooses Trine

PLYMOUTH — Cole Mann is a family man. So when it came time for him to choose a college, he let his family help him decide.
The 2012 Plymouth High School graduate and former Rockie will ply his football skills at NCAA Division III Trine University beginning in the fall.
“My mom loved it and my sister loved it,” he said. “My grandma loved it, and she passed away. She was a big part of my life. Family is a big thing for me, and I wanted to go somewhere where they were comfortable.”

PCC beats Maplecrest
The Plymouth Country Club Ryder Cup team recently vanquished its friends from Maplecrest Country Club, winning 20-12. The win was the fourth straight for PCC.
A rematch will take place Aug. 22 at Maplecrest.
Team members were Jon Huffman, Pat Bayley, Jeff Starr, Brad Parkhurst, John Hampton, Ryan Cummings, Jack Kary, John Wendel, Kent Naylor, Greg Scheetz, Dave Goebel, Steve Hissong, Paul Martindale, Jim Galt, Gary Treat, Rob Carlson, Jim Beckham, George Blackburne, Mike Galt and Andrew Morris.
