PLYMOUTH â Kelly Arce and Kim Richey, both of Plymouth and friends of the Uceny family, are organizing another event to support Plymouth native Morgan Uceny during her quest for gold at the Olympic Games. Arce, a teacher at Jefferson Elementary School, will be present at Plymouth Community School Corporation's student registration days August 1 and 2 at Plymouth High School to help students sign 1500 stars. The stars, which will be cut from construction paper, represent Morgan's event â the 1500 meter run.
Making the rounds in regional news and local social media of late has been discussion and concern over the presence of blue-green algae in nearby lakes, and whether the potentially harmful blooms could affect Lake Maxinkuckee waters.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, "blue-green algae blooms have the potential to cause health problems in humans and animals," including "rashes, skin and eye irritation, nausea, stomach aches, and tingling fingers and toes."

BREMEN â Although the Houin family has hosted tours before at their farm on Plymouth-Goshen Trail near Bremen â most recently the Indiana Farm Management Tour in June â the group of about 50 Australians who visited Monday was something new. Marvin and Diane Houin were contacted by Indiana Farm Bureau to be a stop on the Australianâs month-long tour of farms in the United States.
âWe are presenting basically what an Indiana farm looks like,â said Charlie Houin, Marvin and Dianeâs son. â(We will talk about) how to market corn in the U.S., and what kind of issues come up.â

PLYMOUTH â In a time when cities need all the money they can get, the Plymouth Common Council is considering abating (waiving) taxes for AK Industries LLC in Plymouth.
At Monday nightâs regular meeting, co-owner Butch Sabo and Derek Spier, Economic Development Specialist with the Marshall County Economic Development Commission, presented a request for tax abatement. The occasion was a formal public hearing which is required in such cases.

WAKARUSA â Lodella M. Leininger, 93, Wakarusa, formerly of Mishawaka, Tyner and Zephyrhills, Fla. where she wintered for the last 30 years, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Millerâs Merry Manor. She was born Oct. 22, 1918 in Mishawaka to Charles and Hannah (Cramer) Powell. She married Adolph P. Leininger May 23, 1941.

NAPPANEE â Merrill Dale âGutchâ Pippen, 84, of Nappanee, died from natural causes at his residence Wednesday, July 25, at 9:45 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Jean; son, Rex Pippen of Middlebury; daughter, Sherry (Dennis) Martin, of Nappanee; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bud âEldonâ (Kathy) Pippen, of California.

Davisson; sons, Myron Stephen (Bridget) Davisson of Liberty, Dr. Mark (Dr. Becky) Davisson of New Castle, Major Philip (Major Sheila) Davisson of Winnepeck Mantiba, Canada; daughters, Angela Kay (John) Ballinger of Liberty, Rebecca Hillyer of Fountain City; many grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Jerry) Holem of Plymouth, and Donna (Gary) Stanford of Hammond.
