CULVER — Alice June Rogers, 94, of Culver passed away July 11, 2012 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver.
Alice was born June 24, 1918 to Elijah and Minnie (Starnes) Lewis in Westboro, Mo. She grew up in Iowa where she graduated high school in Coin, Iowa. She worked in a munitions factory as an inspector during the War years. It was there she met her future husband. May 29, 1946 she was married to Robert Rogers in Kansas City, Mo. and they relocated back to Indiana. He preceded her in death May 4, 1980.

WELL KNOWN INDIANA FAMILY'S LOCAL ROOTS RUN 60 YEARS DEEP

Since 1944, seeing “July” on the calendar meant the members of one branch of the Ball family of Indianapolis (think Ball canning jars and Ball State University) are gathered near Aubbeenaubbee Creek at the historic house once home to the Halcyon Boat House. This July is no exception, but there’s a bittersweet tinge to the breeze blowing off Lake Maxinkuckee here at 1746, as this is likely the family’s last July here.

Second Friday events tonight

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce is hosting the summer’s second Second Friday Event tonight. The theme is “Orchestrate a deal in Downtown Plymouth” with members of the Marshall County Orchestra showcasing their musical talents as you walk downtown.
It’s an opportunity to explore downtown Plymouth and its one-of-a-kind shops, boutiques, art gallery, museum, cafés, restaurants and more. Look for the 2nd Friday Signs in participating downtown businesses for specials and promotions.

PCSC discusses new Pathways program

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth School Board heard a report on Indiana Career Pathways Initiative during a meeting July 10. Presenting the information was Plymouth High School Guidance Counselor, Aimee Porttues. Portteus said that Indiana’s College and Career Pathways is “an aligned sequence of secondary and postsecondary courses that leads to industry certification or a college degree in a high wage, high demand occupation.” The Indiana Department of Education has set the 2013-2014 school year as the year for full implementation of the program.

ISTEP results 'record breaking' this year

MARSHALL CO. — Scores from standardized testing of Indiana’s students are being called “record breaking” following an announcement from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Tony Bennett.
Bennett announced this week this is the third successive year of all-time highs on literally every portion of the ISTEP+ (Indiana Statewide Testing for Education Progress Plus) tests.
Making the announcement at a Statehouse recognition ceremony, Bennett said, “Hoosiers from all walks of like should greet this news with a standing ovation.”
