KOONTZ LAKE â Doris I. Sliter, 77, a lifetime area resident, passed away at 6:04 a.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Millerâs Merry Manor, Plymouth.
The daughter of Glen Edward and Dora Blanche Carlson Farver, Doris was born July 5, 1934 in LaPaz. She attended LaPaz Schools.
Doris had been a machine operator at Bendix in South Bend for 20 years, leaving in 1971 with a disability.
An avid reader, Doris also enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking and especially spending time with her family.

SOUTH BEND â Karen M. Reese Pietrzak, 63, of South Bend died Wednesday. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Pietrzak and son, Brent Pietrzak, both of South Bend; sister, Amy Reese of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers, Steve (Judy) Reese of Cache, Okla. and Brian (Tina) Reese of Bristol, Tenn. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at New Creations Fellowship, Granger. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. CONVERSE â Francis R. âBudâ Cartwright, 61, passed away at 3:26 a.m. June 20, 2012 in Marion General Hospital.
Mr. Cartwright was born in Plymouth Feb. 6, 1951 to the late Richard and Virginia M. (Aman) Cartwright Sr.
Mr. Cartwright spent most of his life in Plymouth before coming to Converse in 1997.
Florence E. (Smith) Hall

PLYMOUTH â Florence E. (Smith) Hall, 94, of Plymouth, formerly of Shelby County, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at her sonâs residence.
Born March 9, 1918 in Smithland, she was the daughter of Robert M. and Mary E. (Callison) Smith.

PLYMOUTH â Although FIST (Friends In Service Together) a Marshall County-based riding club, has been meeting since March, they recently completed their first project: helping to collect donations for the annual Heminger House motorcycle ride.
The purpose of the club, said founder Don âAceâ Davis, is to to provide support, organized fundraising, and service work to community based organizations or individuals.
This is the clubâs mission statement, and they are currently looking for new members who are interested in helping them fulfill that cause.

MARSHALL CO. â This week is National Mosquito Awareness week, and Marshall County Health Department educator Sandy Read recently shared some tips on how to avoid West Nile Virus this season.
âThe state (health department) checks mosquito larvae for West Nile Virus, and there have been some found in mosquitoes but not any in humans so far,â noted Read.
She added that the cases of West Nile Virus were found in mosquitoes in the mid and southern parts of Indiana.
WAKARUSA â The Wakarusa and Nappanee Chambers of Commerce held their ninth annual joint golf outing June 19 at McCormick Creek in Nappanee.
The morning session first place team from McCormick Motors, consisting of Steve Neff, Sam Sheets, Adam Yoder and Amy Thompson, shot a phenomenal 25-under-par 47 and left feeling pretty confident of securing the top prize, but Elkhart Clinicâs team of Kevin Boyer, Griffyn Carpenter, T.J. Carpenter and John Miller, carded a 26-under-par 46 in the afternoon session to win by a single shot.
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. â Two Plymouth boys basketball teams traveled to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to compete in the 2012 Dells Classic held on June 18-20, and both brought home championships.
One of the teams competed in the 17-team varsity division and the other team competed in the 10-team junior varsity division.

Kolter moves up 4 places at Northern Junior Masters
Plymouthâs Nate Kolter rose three places in the second and final round of the Indiana Golf Foundationâs Northern Junior Masters event to finish 69th overall Monday.
Kolter shaved four strokes off his first round total to card an 85 at Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne and move up from a tie for 72nd place, recording a 32-over 174 total at the event.
