MARSHALL CO. â€” The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning which will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday. Air temperatures and heat index values will range from 103 to 107 degrees. This type of excessive heat will pose a risk for heat stress for those with outdoor activities.
Clyde Avery, director of the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency would like to remind everyone to be prepared for the higher temperatures.
He released the following tips for staying safe in the heat:
MARSHALL CO. â€” The dangerous dry conditions that prompted the initial implementation of a county wide burn ban June 13 and a renewal on June 20 continue to intensify, according to Marshall County Emergency Management Agency director Clyde Avery. According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, no measurable precipitation is expected through the 4th of July holiday making it improbable that the hazardous conditions will improve in time for 4th of July celebration activities.
LAKEVILLE â€” The LaVille boys basketball team and members of County Line Brethren Church recently partnered to fix up the playground at
Gatewood Estate Mobile Home Park. Park owner Ralph Costello said that the idea came from when coach Michael Edison and assistant Jack Edison took the basketball team to the Dominican Republic.
MARSHALL CO. â€” Starting Sunday, Hoosiers will be following the new law prohibiting smoking in public places and places of employment. Smoking will continue to be allowed in the following establishments:
A horse-racing facility, a riverboat, a facility with a gambling game license, a satellite-gaming facility, cigar bars, hookah bars, certain fraternal clubs, a retail-tobacco store, a bar or tavern meeting certain requirements, a cigar-manufacturing facility, a cigar-specialty store, and a business in a private residence.
PLYMOUTH â€” Andrew Benson, 19, of Plymouth was arrested Monday by Plymouth police for stealing electronics and credit cards from a vehicle parked in the Plymouth High School parking lot.
Benson was one of two teens arrested for a similar crime in February â€” he and the other suspect, a juvenile, had broken into vehicles at Triton High School and Bremen High School, taking items such as change, cell phones, stereo faceplates, and GPS systems.
CROWN POINT â€” Plymouth Post 27 needed a big win to get the ship going in the right direction. It did just that in a 15-1 drubbing of host Crown Point Post 20 Tuesday.
The Plymouth offense was out in full force, and Sean Liedtky was masterful on the mound in the victory.
Liedtky pitched a complete game two-hitter and allowed the only run of the game to cross the plate on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. He struck out seven Post 20 hitters in the game while walking two and hitting one to pick up his third win on the season.

CULVER â€” Mystic Hills Golf Course was the host of the 2012 Indiana Northern Open Golf Championship on Monday, June 11.
Mike Oâ€™Toole from Noblesville finished first with a score of 66 at the par 71 course, two strokes ahead of a three-way tie between Preston Smith, Brian Brodell and Andrew Eiler of Rochester. This was the first IGA/PGA event hosted by Mystic Hills.
Mystic Hills was honored to host the field of 125 golfers, both professionals as well as amateurs.
â€śIt was a great experience for our staff and members,â€ť said owner Vicki Pugh.
Prentkowski wins at Erskine
North Libertyâ€™s Tyler Prentkowski shot a 4-over-par 74 at Erskine to win the boys 15-16 division, and Bremenâ€™s Zach Gurtner tied for third two strokes back in an Indiana Golf Foundation Mountain Dew Tour event in South Bend Tuesday.
Micah Calhoun of Plymouth tied for 13th in the boys 13-14 division with a 92. Bremenâ€™s Micah Knoblock was 11th in the boys 17-19 division with an 83, while Culverâ€™s Zach Allyn shot an 89 to finish 15th in the flight.
