For Jack Johnston, the idea was so simple it should have already been taken: kids love ice cream and they love to stay in hotels. So the Culver residentâs new childrenâs book, âIce Cream Hotel,â created a match made in kid heaven.
Actually, the idea itself started with a kid: Johnstonâs Culver Elementary School niece, Sarah Luttrell, had created an âice cream hotelâ drawing for art class, and Johnston was immediately struck by the idea. So, though heâd never had aspirations to pen a picture book, he went home and in two hours had the story on paper.

PLYMOUTH â An unidentified woman shot herself this morning in the parking lot of the Plymouth Martin's Supermarket.
Mike Smith was leaving the store around 9:30 a.m. when he noticed what looked like a woman sleeping in her car. He then noticed that she had a gun propped between her legs pointing at herself. Smith approached another shopper in the parking lot, Jamie Paxton, and asked him to call 911 because he believed the woman had shot herself.

United Way of Marshall County may have just the thing to cover the occasion while supporting local non-profit agencies at the same time. United Way is currently selling golf cards for $50. The card holder receives one round at each of the six golf courses in Marshall County: Mystic Hills, Plymouth Country Club, Plymouth Rock, Spring Oâ Mint, Swan Lake, and Tri-Way.

LAKEVILLE â Kameron Flynn and Anthony Singleton, both 2012 graduates of LaVille Jr./Sr. High School, have done something that only three students at the school have done before. The two graduated with both academic and technical honors on their diploma.

ARGOS â Barbara âGrannyâ E. Hutchinson, 79, of Argos died June 10, 2012 at 11:40 p.m. at Life Care Center of Rochester following a short illness.
She is survived by a son, Scott Hutchinson of Pierceton; daughter, Cara Kowal of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Cindy Karns of Ohio; and daughter-in-law, Julie Hutchinson of Argos.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday June 15, 2012 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.
PRINCETON, N.J. â Plymouth native and recent Princeton graduate Alex Banfich has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Banfich is a four-time All-America on the Princeton womenâs cross country and womenâs track teams. She placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championship, the highest finish by a Tiger at the NCAAs in program history.

Post 27 wins Terre Haute tourney opener
Plymouth Post 27 won its opener at the Terre Haute Tournament Thursday, scoring three runs in the third and tacking on another two in the seventh for a 5-3 victory over Terre Haute Post 346.
After starting out the game with six straight strike outs, the Diamond Spyder offense woke up in the top half of the third, scoring three runs on a pair of Post 346 errors and a double by Eric Knepper of Bremen.
