Plymouth Motel demolition begins

PLYMOUTH — Private contractors hired by the owner of the Plymouth Motel located on W. Jefferson Street began demolishing the building Wednesday. They say the entire process will take about 10 working days.
Plymouth Motel is one of the establishments named by Mayor Mark Senter earlier this year in his "Operation Bright Spot" plan to clean up the city. Senter called the abandoned motel "a blight to our west side" in a press release in February, also mentioning that the location is an attraction for vandalism and squatters.

Plymouth man arrested for child neglect, battery

PLYMOUTH — Cecilio A. Calderon, of Plymouth, was arrested Tuesday just before noon under charges of child neglect and battery. Sergeant Mark Owen of the Plymouth Police Department, along with the Division of Family Services, investigated the incident.

Tuesday night meth arrests in Argos

ARGOS — Argos police officer Jeremy Enyart arrested two individuals Tuesday at the Argos BP gas station around 9:15 p.m. Both had outstanding arrest warrants.
Michael J. Meeks had a warrant from Marshall County and Amanda L. Gall had a warrant from Fulton County. After further investigation at the scene, Enyart located several items used to manufacture methamphetamine inside the subject's vehicle. Both Meeks and Gall are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, dealing and delivering methamphetamine, and possession of precursors.

Triton’s Clay Yeo and Culver Girls Academy’s Andrijana Cvitkovic have been invited to play for the junior north teams in the first-ever Junior All-Star games of the annual Indiana-Kentucky All-Stars basketball series.

WARSAW — Leah Heckaman gave herself a bit of a scare Tuesday night.
Coming into the discus finals at the Warsaw Girls Track and Field Sectional, the Culver Girls Academy sophomore’s best throw of the night was only good enough for fourth place, one shy of state qualification.
Luckily for her, she saved her best for last.

LAKEVILLE — The old saying holds that the third time’s the charm.
Plymouth couldn’t argue with that Tuesday.
Marissa Sullivan and battery mate Emilee Keilman both cranked out two-run homers in Plymouth’s third time through the order, and the Lady Pilgrims used a four-run fifth to snap a 0-0 stalemate en route to a 6-2 defeat of John Glenn in Class 3A St. Joseph’s Softball Sectional action at Newton Park.
Plymouth advances to the semifinals to play Jimtown tonight at 7 p.m. following a game between host St. Joe and Culver Girls Academy.

Lions invited to Colts Horseshoe Classic

BREMEN — The Indianapolis Colts have invited the Bremen High School football team to play in the Horseshoe Classic at Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday, Aug. 25.

CGA advances, Plymouth bows out at tennis regional
Culver Girls Academy advanced to the championship of its home tennis regional with a 5-0 win over Manchester, while Plymouth bowed out of the state tournament with a close 3-2 defeat at the hands of Northern Lakes Conference rival Warsaw at the CGA Girls Tennis Regional Tuesday.
CGA and Warsaw will face off in the tournament’s final tonight at 5:15 p.m.

County announces increased patrols for holiday weekend

MARSHALL CO. — The Marshall County D.U.I. Task Force has announced its intention to step up patrols for the Memorial Day weekend. Officers from multiple agencies throughout Marshall County will be out in full force all weekend looking for impaired drivers. Officers would like to remind the citizens to please drink responsibly and be safe this holiday weekend. Citizens are encouraged to report possible impaired drivers to the Marshall County Police Department at 574-936-3187.
