South Michigan to close Sunday for demolition

PLYMOUTH — South Michigan street will be closed to traffic between East Lake Avenue and West LaPorte Street Sunday from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The closure is intended to protect the traveling public from possible debris coming from the demolition of the western wall of the Dimmitt building.
"We wish to thank the public for avoiding the closed area, which will safely expedite the demolition process and minimize the street closure time required," said city engineer Rick Gaul in a statement Wednesday.

WALKERTON — Kathryn R. Fansler, 92, of Walkerton, formerly of Lakeville died Monday. She is survived by her son, Dale (Jerrolyn) Fansler of Plymouth; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and brother, Edward Horvath of South Bend. Private services will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lakeville.
There will be no visitation. Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville is handling the arrangements.

BOURBON — Mrs. Galina “Gali” Edwards, 88, a resident of Warsaw Meadows Care Center and formerly of Garden Court Senior Living in Bourbon, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at 12:15 p.m. in Warsaw Meadows Care Center.
Galina was born to John Lavroff and Vera Morozoff Lavroff who were Russian emigrees of the Bolshevik Revolution in Harbin, Manchuria China Sept. 19, 1923. She married at Tsingtao, China to Gene Edwards who preceded her in death.

BOURBON — Florence C. Kreiter, 77, of Bourbon, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 5:17 p.m. in Bremen Health Care Center. She fought a courageous 3 ½-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born Feb. 9, 1935 at Rolla, Ark. to Clarence Futch Sr. and Rachel Brown Futch. 
She had worked at Biomet for 19 years and the Bourbon Public Library for more than 12 years. She enjoyed reading Christian fiction books and the Bible. She also loved cooking, baking and gardening.

PLYMOUTH — Sheila Ann Jacobs, 76, of Plymouth and Winter Haven, Fla., went to be with her Lord and Savior, April 26, 2012, after sustaining injuries in an automobile accident.
Sheila was born Feb. 26, 1936, to Wilbur A. and Ann E. (Roszhart) McIntyre in Chicago, Ill. As a teenager, Sheila and her family moved to a dairy farm in Leiters Ford. Sheila graduated from Aubbeenaubbee High School, in 1954, and May 7, 1955, she married Richard H. Jacobs. They were the parents of four children, Richard II, Michael, Timothy, and Marianne.

Pilgrims drop NLC contest with Chargers

PLYMOUTH — The Pilgrims battled back at the plate, but wild pitching in the third and fourth innings proved too much to come back from in a 9-7 Northern Lakes Conference loss to Elkhart Memorial Wednesday.
Plymouth sophomore starter Riley Cartwright surrendered four walks with a hit batsman, while catcher’s interference cost another run as the visiting Chargers put up a five spot in the top of the third to grab a 6-1 lead, and another four walks by reliever Jacob Frantz cost two more runs in the fourth.

Lady Pilgrims win 2-1 thriller at Memorial

ELKHART — Senior Night for the Plymouth softball team is still about two weeks away, but the Lady Pilgrims’ two 12th-graders were at the center of nearly all the action Wednesday as Plymouth manufactured a thrilling 2-1 NLC victory at Elkhart Memorial.
Catcher Emilee Keilman was in the thick of things during both Plymouth tallies, including driving in the game-winner with a two-out, seventh-inning single, while her fellow senior and batterymate Marissa Sullivan shut down the aggressive Memorial hitters with a 15-strikeout performance.
