Dreibelbis is spelling bee winner

CULVER — Twenty-seven students in all from across the county earned the privilege of competing at the 30th Marshall County Spelling Bee, though in the end St. Michael Catholic School seventh grader Kendall Dreibelbis finally edged out Riverside Elementary sixth grader Autumn Wilson after a lengthy elimination battle between the girls, to take first place. Argos eighth grader Cody Detwiler came in third, just beating out Culver Communtiy seventh grader Brianna Kinyanjui, who was eliminated by the word, “myriad.”

PHS brings Disney classic to life this weekend

PLYMOUTH — A classic comes alive on the Plymouth High School stage this weekend as the performing arts department presents the Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5.
Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening are in the PHS Auditorium Doors open at 7:00 PM for festival seating. All seats are $7.00 and tickets can be purchased at the door before the show. The show is produced through arrangements with Music Theatre International.

Hartley, Gault named principals

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Schools did not have to look far to find new principals for the Discovery Academy (currently Washington Elementary) and Lincoln Junior High.

Andrew Hartley, now Plymouth High School assistant principal, will be heading up the Academy in the fall. Current principal, Michelle Riise, was named to a newly created position of Director of Development within the last few weeks. Her appointment left an opening for a principal for the 2012-13 school year.

Lady Pilgrims split last NLC 3-way

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth earned a split at its final Northern Lakes Conference three-way at home Tuesday, and it was one for the Lady Pilgrims to grow on.
The team picked up only three first-place finishes in a 74-54 loss to Northridge but saw improvement in several events and gained some conference momentum with a 75.66-55.33 win over Goshen on Senior Night.
The Lady Pilgrims conclude the conference dual meet season at 4-3, a projected fourth-place finish behind Warsaw, Elkhart Memorial and Northridge heading into next Tuesday’s NLC championship meet.

A long, winding road for Bremen's Wagner

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — As a video coordinator at the University of Arkansas, Bremen native Andy Wagner is used to being on the other side of the spotlight.
But the Razorbacks’ Director of Sports Video will get some much-deserved attention of his own when he returns to Indiana to receive the Southeastern Conference Video Coordinator of the Year Award at the 18th Annual Collegiate Sports Video Conference May 14-17 in Indianapolis.

Nixon, Northridge shut out Plymouth
Haley Nixon threw a one-hitter, facing the minimum of 21 hitters as undefeated Northridge downed Plymouth 3-0 Tuesday.
The Raiders manufactured a run in the fourth off Plymouth’s Marissa Sullivan, using an infield hit, a bunt, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly, then tacked on a pair for insurance in the seventh.
Britney Horvath’s bunt single was the only hit and only baserunner for Plymouth.
Plymouth visits Elkhart Memorial today to begin the second round of NLC play.
