Carothers is Youth of Year

April 19, 2012

PLYMOUTH — Although Billie Carothers is now 18, headed to college in the fall, and thinking about a future in teaching, executive director of the Marshall County Boys and Girls Club Billie Treber still recalls the day that she met her namesake.
“I remember when she walked into the club for the first time,” said Treber. “She was a little 8-year-old with blond pigtails.”
Treber and Carothers formed a close bond over Carothers’ 10 years as a club member, and Treber will be accompanying Carothers this weekend to compete in a state-wide “Youth of the Year” contest in Indianapolis.

Lady Pilgrims lose game of inches to Concord

April 19, 2012

PLYMOUTH — It was a game of inches in Plymouth’s Centennial Park last night.
A couple more inches left on a hard line drive by April Hampton in the first could have plated two Lady Pilgrims runs early. Another couple inches to the left and Emilee Keilman could have been standing on second base instead of flying out to the center fielder in the gap. And if Bailey Brown could have stretched her arm out two more inches she may have caught a fly ball to right field that ended up a run-scoring triple for Concord.

Lions hand Culver 10-4 NSC loss

April 19, 2012

BREMEN — Success in the game of baseball often requires a short memory.
When Culver’s first three batters went double, double, triple, and the Cavaliers scored three runs in their first five at-bats, it looked like it might be a long night for Bremen. But the Lions put it behind them and bore down with two runs in the bottom of the first, then tacked on another four in the second en route to a 10-4 Northern State Conference defeat of visiting Culver Wednesday night in Bremen.

Coroner requests texting for county-issued phones

April 18, 2012

PLYMOUTH — Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger would like to be able to text on the job. Far from being a distraction, however, Cleavenger told county commissioners Monday that texting capabilities on his and his deputies’ county-issued cell phones would make their jobs easier and more efficient.
“Better than 99.5 percent of calls in the last three years have come through the county’s 911 center, and they use computer aided dispatch (CAD),” said Cleavenger.
