MARION — Janet Christine May, 61, died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 10:53 p.m. in the Indiana University Health — Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
She is survived by her mother, Pauline (Rains) Phillippe of Marion; one brother, David L. (Diana) May of Marion; and two sisters, Cynthia L. (May) and her husband Mike Laughrun of Massanutten, Va., and Lorann Ruth (May) and her husband Donald Jennings of Tallahassee, Fla.

WALKERTON – Jerry Lee Hummel, 63, passed away due to natural causes in the early morning hours Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the 21-acre hobby farm he had called home for nearly 39 years. He had fought stubbornly in the recent past against the aftereffects of a severe stroke, and was determined to overcome just as he had throughout his life before our gracious Lord called him away.

PLYMOUTH — Judith Kay Smith, 71, died at her home, 625 Loon Court, Plymouth, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 of complications brought on by Huntington’s Disease. A sister Doris Swank, who was also diagnosed with the disease, passed away March 16 of this year.
Born in Rochester March 11, 1941, she was the daughter of Wilson Mearle and Margaret Pauline (Nicoll) Wakeland.
Judith graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1960. She earned her teaching degree from Ball State University and a master’s in education from IUSB.

Marshall Co. Primary absentee voting ongoing

PLYMOUTH — You may vote by absentee ballot if you are a registered voter of the precinct where you reside. There are three methods of absentee voting.
Absentee Voting in person begins today, April 9, in the Marshall County Clerk’s Office, 211 W. Madison St., Plymouth, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m. for the upcoming primary election May 8. The office will also be open Saturday, April 28 and Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Absentee Voting by mail can be done if you meet the qualifications listed below:

Triton’s Zak Shively earned his first pitching win of the season Friday as the Trojans beat Plymouth 9-7. Shively gave up three hits for three earned runs in five and a third innings, and he also finished with two hits, an RBI and a walk in the win.

Plymouth’s Marissa Sullivan notched 19 strikeouts in two games as the Lady Pilgrims opened their season last week. The senior power pitcher also signed on to continue her softball career at Ancilla College next year.

PLYMOUTH — It’s taken a lot of time and hard work for Marissa Sullivan to reach the next level.
The four-year Plymouth pitcher made it official last Thursday when she signed with Ancilla College to play softball beginning in 2012-13.
“I liked the environment, the people were really nice, and I wanted to play softball somewhere,” said Sullivan of her choice.
“I’m really excited. I’ve worked forever to get to this point, and I’m glad I made it here finally.”

Plymouth drops 4-0 decision to LaPorte

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth softball team came up short in its second game of the young season, dropping a 4-0 decision to LaPorte on Saturday.
LaPorte put up all four runs in the fourth inning. It was all the scoring they would need as LaPorte’s Hannah Fuller held the young Plymouth lineup to just three scattered singles.

Pilgrims, Eagles compete at CMA Relays
Plymouth placed third with 92 points, and host Culver Military finished fourth with 65 points as LaPorte won the five-team Culver Military Academy Relays with 121 points Saturday.
Plymouth claimed three first place finishes in the field as Jordan Knapp won the long jump with a 20’2” distance, Dan Samuelson finished first in the shot put with a throw of 48’7 1/2”, and Adam Lacefield won the discus with a throw of 132’. Lacefield also placed second in the shot, while Samuelson was third in the discus.

Plymouth boy airlifted after rollover ATV accident in Marshall County

PLYMOUTH — Indiana conservation officers are investigating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident that occurred Saturday near the intersection of 9th and Sycamore Roads, Plymouth. Marshall County central dispatch received a 911 call at 4:09 p.m. advising of an ATV accident with injury.
