Culver's Garden Court senior living facility held its much-anticipated open house and ribbon cutting last Tuesday, the culmination of some 15 years of searching for land, said Dr. Ronald Liechty, Garden Court board president, and over two years of work to prepare and build the facility.
A number of people gathered at the 801 S. Main Street Garden Court, where rooms were available for tours and refreshments offered.

PLYMOUTH â Pending the Board of Public Works and Safety approval of the Delmonte request to work in the right of way today, Western Avenue, Plymouth will be closed Tuesday April 24 through Sunday, April 29. The closure is needed to repair the two Western Avenue railroad crossings just north of North Street. The industrial park will be serviced by traveling on Western Avenue north of the closure area. Delmonte will be the only company serviced by traveling on Western Avenue south of the closure area. Updates will be provided if there are any changes in the work schedule.
It seem hard to believe, but it's been 10 years (or will be, this fall) since Ed and Lora Pinder and family closed the doors for the last time on one of the most beloved local eateries in most residents' memories. Ed told the Citizen at the time it had "even older men my age" crying. "There were lots of tears," he said.

ROCHESTER â Phillip Noel Nafziger, 67, of Rochester died at 3:01 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Woodlawn Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne; a son, Roger Nafziger of Prosper, Texas; and a brother, Roger (Nancy) Nafziger of Tombal, Texas.

ARGOS â Harold âCurlyâ Dean Stevens, 73, of Argos died April 20, 2012 at 8:26 a.m. at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born Oct. 2, 1938 in Red Wine, Ky. to Sanford and Elizabeth (Hill) Stevens. He lived in the Argos community since 1955. Dec. 9, 1960 in Rochester he married Verna Lou Bear.

TYNER â Jeff C. Whitmer, 49, residing in Tyner, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Elkhart General Hospital after a short illness. Jeff was born Sept. 4, 1962 in South Bend and has been a lifelong area resident. He was self-employed specializing in the drywall business.

PLYMOUTH â Richard Rex Bean, 70, a resident of King Road, Bremen, died following a valiant battle against cancer. A longtime public accountant, he passed away at 5:30 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, in the comfort of his home and family.
Dick was born in South Sioux City, Iowa March 23, 1942 the son of Rex and Esther Beam.

PLYMOUTH â Longtime Marshall County businessman Budd Treat and his wife Ajean were the recipients of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Centerâs annual âCatch the Spiritâ award, presented Friday at a gala at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth.
The award is presented each year by SJRMC to Marshall County residents who exemplify the spirit of the organizationâidentified as passionate giving, enthusiastic service, and tenacious vision.
