HAMLET — June Miller, 72, died Monday, April 16, 2012 in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; three children, Earnestine (Robert) Becker of Hamlet, Johnny Ray (Donna) Miller of Rensselaer and Freddy (Betty) Miller of LaPorte; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;Â two brothers, Henry (Shirley) Miller and James (Paula) Miller; and one sister, Katherine (Roy) Craft.

He is survived by his wife, Veta; three sons, Jerome (Sue) West of Traverse City, Mich., Larry (Rhonda) West of Almont, Mich., Gary (Laura) West of Plymouth; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bert (Betty) West of Palacios,Texas, and George (Donna) West of Tacoma, Wash.

ROCHESTER — Gilbert G. Rich, 85, of Argos passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 9:34 p.m. in Woodlawn Hospital at Rochester.
Gilbert was born the son of Edward Rich and Emma Haehnel Rich Feb. 22, 1927 at Leroy. He was a resident of Argos the past 48 years. He was a truck driver hauling steel. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Bourbon American Legion Post #424 and Marshall County Farm Bureau. In his spare time he enjoyed working with rocks, polishing them and making various kinds of jewelry.

PLYMOUTH — A fundraising dinner and auction is planned for Thursday evening to benefit Operation Quiet Comfort, a non-profit organization dedicated to sending care packages to injured soldiers overseas.
"We hear about (soldiers) who are killed, but we don't hear about the ones who are injured every day," said organizer Jan Houin. "OQC strives to send an extra measure of comfort to injured soldiers."

PLYMOUTH — Two inmates of the Marshall County Jail have filed suit against the jail over what they claim is a violation of their civil rights.
A new “postcard policy” began at the jail April 1, prohibiting inmates from receiving letters in envelopes from their friends and family. Instead, those incarcerated must be satisfied with postcards. The reason for the change, according to Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin, is that several letters have been sent to the jail containing dangerous or illegal contraband.
BOURBON — With a young lineup and a roster full of injuries, Triton has sometimes had trouble fielding the ball this season.
Luckily for the Lady Trojans, they’ve been able to make up for it at the plate.
Triton’s batting order produced 13 hits — including six during a six-run fourth inning — to help offset five errors, and the Trojans rallied past visiting Knox Monday in the two teams’ Northern State Conference opener in Bourbon, 11-10.
PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth softball team didn’t have any problems hitting the ball in the conference opener last night; it was when the hits came that caused the problems.
The Lady Pilgrim offense couldn’t find a timely hit as it left eight runners on base — five in scoring position — in a 7-2 loss to visiting Elkhart Memorial.

Plymouth wins NLC opener
Plymouth jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first three and a half innings, and the Pilgrims won their Northern Lakes Conference opener 15-6 on the road at Elkhart Memorial Monday.
Plymouth tallied 17 hits in the win, including five doubles and three triples.
Chase Peters tapped out two doubles and a triple to finish with four RBI, while Connor Flynn and Ike Kastner each both tripled on their way to four RBI apiece.
