This Thursday, March 15, Culver Academiesâ Eppley Auditorium will host the National Playersâ stage rendition of the John Steinbeck classic, âOf Mice and Men,â starting at 7:30 p.m.
âNow celebrating its 63rd anniversary season,â notes the Playersâ website (www.nationalplayers.org), âNational Players has earned a distinctive place in American theatre by...(introducing) audiences to great works of dramatic literature that are rich in exciting stories and characters, and profound in language and themes.
PLYMOUTH â The School of Inquiry will host a welcome ice cream social for all students who have enrolled in the school and their parents Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The ice cream social will be held in the Plymouth High School cafeteria. In addition to having ice cream and having time to meet and socialize with other students and their parents, the event will give parents an opportunity to meet the staff for next year, see a model of the future school space, and hear about how parents can partner with the school.
HAMLET â OD-EDPAC (Oregon-Davis Educational Political Action Committee) will be holding a public information meeting at OD High School gymnasium March 20 at 6 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to explain the tax levy that was recently proposed to Starke County Commissioners.
The funding problem for OD began with the recent changes at the state level on how school funding is calculated.
Oregon-Davis School Corporation Superintendent Steven Disney explained their current financial situation to the county commissioners at their recent meeting.

PLYMOUTH â There are still spots available for the St. Paddyâs DAY Dash Saturday, a 5K race intended to raise money for Plymouth High School graduate Eric Dayâs medical expenses. Day, who will be a sophomore at Butler University this fall, recently finished undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.
Kelsey Flynn, an organizer of the event and a friend of the Day family, said that she and others were looking for a way to help the family when they thought of doing a St. Patrickâs day race.

NAPPANEE â Cheryl A. Gonzalez, 57, of 500 Short St., Nappanee, died at 8:05 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2012 at her residence after a long illness.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel V. Gonzalez; sons, Don C. Gonzalez of Lakeville, Mark A. Gonzalez of Richmond, Va., James P. Gonzalez of Nappanee; three grandchildren; and sisters, Susan (Glen) Hochstetler of Nappanee, Cindy (Joe) Lynn of Bremen, and Mary Robbins of Wakarusa.

Bernice Evelyn (Ersepke) Dietz

PLYMOUTH â Bernice Evelyn Ersepke Dietz, known affectionately to her friends as âBerne,â died March 10, 2012. She was 82 years old.
Berne was born to Bernhard and Ethel Longmire Ersepke in San Francisco, Calif., Aug. 22, 1929.
She graduated from George Washington High School in 1947, and later attended San Francisco City College.

PLYMOUTH â A lifetime Marshall County resident, Mary Marie Klein, 87, passed away of natural causes at 2:55 a.m., Friday morning, March 9, 2012, in Pilgrim Manor.
Mary was born in Tyner, Jan. 23, 1925, and raised as the daughter of Fay E. and Rebecca V. (Trump) Ward. She attended Tyner grade school and graduated from Plymouthâs Lincoln High School in 1942.
CULVER â Marshall County Police department officers and Culver Police department officers were led on a chase Saturday night around 10 p.m. when a driver in Culver failed to yield on a traffic stop.
