Family thankful as dog survives coyote attack

PLYMOUTH - A local family will have a beloved member home for the holidays after a frightening encounter.
It was a normal morning for Jessica Groves and her husband up at 3 a.m. for work and as they do every day they let the family dog Maggie - a miniature schnauzer - outside. While Maggie normally comes back inside just a few minutes later, this particular morning it was nearly 4 a.m. and when she returned she was terribly injured and bleeding.

Parents of special needs student slapped by teacher looking for $700K in lawsuit

LAKEVILLE — The parents of a 12-year-old LaVille Junior/Senior High School student reportedly spanked and slapped by a special education teacher has notified the Union North United School Corporation that they intend to proceed with legal action.
Parents Tracy Martin and Michael Cuthbert have secured legal counsel through the Frazier Law Firm in Indianapolis. The tort put forth shows that the parents are seeking a maximum of $700,000 per incident.

Effort equals win in Plymouth overtime victory versus Penn

PLYMOUTH — “People show up at the games here they expect Plymouth to play a certain way,” said Plymouth head basketball coach Ryan Bales. “Our crowd brought a little sixth man for us tonight. Hopefully they walk away tonight proud of our guys and proud of their effort.”
Effort was the word for the week for Plymouth basketball as a disheartening loss last Friday turned into back-to-back wins — Wednesday night at Whitko and a big overtime win over Penn at home Thursday night, 66-62.

Glenn gets first win at Argos, 61-49

ARGOS — To hear John Glenn head coach Travis Hannah tell it, it wasn’t so much his players who needed a win as the Falcons skipper himself.
Glenn rode senior shooter Nathan Stegemiller’s hot hand to a 24-7 third quarter to take a 52-32 lead into the fourth quarter, then held off scrappy Argos to break into the win column in a long-awaited victory at Phil Weybright Gymnasium Thursday night, 61-49.

Lady Falcons kick it up a notch in Senior Night win

WALKERTON — John Glenn’s girls basketball team kicked up its five-week-old winning streak another notch Thursday.
The Lady Falcons, who claimed a combined seven wins over the previous two seasons, snared their 10th straight victory with a 53-44 Senior Night win over a quick, physical South Bend Adams squad at The Aerie.

Bethany beats Bremen
Bethany Christian outscored host Bremen 31-20 in the second half to rally back from a tenuous one-point deficit at the half, and the Lady Bruins earned their third straight win with a 52-42 victory over the host Lady Lions Thursday night.
Bremen was led by Sara Slabaugh’s nine points just six days after the junior guard dropped 26 in the Lions’ first win of the year versus Knox last Friday.
Megan Stouder and Ashley Lucchese each finished with eight in the loss, which drops Bremen to 1-10.
