KEWANNA — Barbara J. Gast, 84, of Kewanna, passed away at 8:06 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at Life Care Center of Rochester.
Born March 10, 1928 in Peru, she was the daughter of the late Arvin and Hazel (Greer) Carr. July 8, 1970, she married Jon S. Gast, he survives.
She was a 1946 Kewanna High School graduate.
Barb formerly worked at Switches in Leiters Ford and also Hart- Schaffner Marx in Rochester. She also provided child care for many children over the years.
She was a member of Kewanna United Methodist Church.

WALKERTON - You could call it a spelling hegemony. You can also bet there’s a group at John Glenn High School that could tell you how to spell it.
Paul Hernandez’s Glenn spell bowl team won its’ 17th Spell Bowl State Championship in the past 26 years and fifth straight state title. Glenn won many of those championships in Division III but has competed in and won the state’s Division II title the past four years. The team has made the state final round for 27 consecutive years more than any other team in the state.

MARSHALL CO. — Jordan Rans, 27, of Plymouth is returning to familiar grounds as he steps into the position of Marshall County Deputy Sheriff.
He got his start in law enforcement at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, working there from 2007 to 2011, when he joined the Plymouth Police Department as a patrolman.
BOURBON — The Plymouth Lady Pilgrims and the Class A No. 6 Triton Lady Trojans played a game of runs Thursday night at the Trojan Trench.
The visitors used one final one to outlast the hosts in overtime, 39-36.
Triton opened the game up with a fast-paced offense and tough zone defense to jump out to an 11-6 lead after one quarter. Shana Anderson started the scoring with a basket off a Mallorie Jennings assist. Jennings picked up two points of her own on the next possession, and a baseline drive and lay-up by Taylor Hatfield got the Lady Trojans rolling.
BOURBON — Even though Clay Yeo had already decided on a college his sophomore year, it’s something that’s been looming in the back of his mind ever since. Now that it’s official, the prodigious Triton talent can just focus on his senior season.
After two years of verbal commitment, Yeo finally signed his letter of intent to play at Valparaiso next year on the first day of the early signing period Wednesday.
PLYMOUTH — Fuzzy Zoeller can lay claim to a U.S. Open and Masters championship. Now after a long and successful career as a golfer, Fuzzy is throwing his hat into another ring.
Vodka.
Fuzzy Vodka hit shelves in July 2009.
Zoeller was in Plymouth Thursday night to sign bottles and press the flesh for members and non-members alike as the local country club held its annual Fall Stag.
Zoeller recently played in the Champions circuit of golf, formerly known as the Seniors. Now, Zoeller, said, he’s going to focus his attention on his vodka.

CGA wins opener vs Judson
Culver Girls Academy’s swim team dove into the 2012 season with a dominant 126-38 win over visiting North Judson Thursday night at home.
The Lady Eagles swept the top spot in all events and went one-two in eight different races, including the 200 free and 400 free relays.
Culver's Don Baker has a veritable lifetime of musical experience under his belt, something he hopes area musicians and anyone interested can benefit from by way of “An Introduction to Music Recording and Production: Recording Your Music at Home on a Budget,” this Monday, November 19, starting at 6 p.m. at the Culver Public Library.

While most of us watched coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy late last month on the news, members of Culver's EMS service were there in person, assisting victims and authorities.
Culver-Union Township EMS director Bob Cooper Jr. and full-time, Advanced EMT Kimberly Irsa made the journey early in the morning Sunday, Oct. 28, ahead of the storm actually landing on the east coast of the United States.
MARSHALL CO. — The Marshall County probation and prosecution departments will soon be experiencing changes in their employees.
Both departments have experienced turnover due to employees taking maternity leave or family leave. Mary Jane Walsworth of the probation department and Nelson Chipman of the prosecution department asked county council members Tuesday for permission to fill the vacant positions.
