Argos’ Patterson is third team All-State

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) announced the Soccer All-State team for 2012. Argos senior striker Jami Patterson was named Third Team All-State and was the lone selection from Marshall County this year.

Argos falls at Tippy Valley
Tippy Valley scored at a better than 52 percent field clip and jumped out to a 39-17 halftime cushion as Argos’ boys basketball team fell 74-46 on the road in Akron Tuesday.
The Dragons were led by Dominic Cataldo’s all-around game of 12 points with five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Taylor Ogle put up 10 points with five rebounds, and Max Bailey finished with eight points as Argos slipped to an 0-2 start.

CULVER — Steve Richie, 65, of Culver died Nov. 20, 2012 in Goshen.
He is survived by his wife, Connie of Culver; and brother Jerry (Karen) Richie of Indianapolis. 
Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Rochester from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private.
Memorials may be given to The Care Foundation or the First Christian Church of Rochester.

Council votes for additional years on Zentis abatement

PLYMOUTH - The Plymouth Common Council voted a “no fault” tax abatement to Zentis Food Solutions Monday night.
In the Council’s previous session earlier this month Kevin Chestnut - tax advisor for the North American branch of the German company - came before the board to ask for the extension of a tax abatement offered the company when it first considered where it was going to place its base of North American operations. In 2006, the Council voted Zentis a two-year abatement when the company had requested a five-year abatement for the project.

Missing area teen found after search
PLYMOUTH - Family members and local law enforcement were involved early Monday in the search for an area high school student Tristan McCallum.
McCallum’s family confirms that he left their home around 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening wearing only shorts and a dark gray shirt and without any money or cell phone. He was on foot after leaving the family home Sunday evening. A resident of the Donaldson area he has friends in South Bend and Mishawaka and family feared he could have also been picked up by a passing motorist.

Council, others examine future of Culver’s EMS as mandated changes loom

As a result of new state standards, Culver's EMS service will make a marked change in 2014; Culver's town council met with members of the service last Tuesday to consider just what that change will look like.

Lady Trojans bounce back at Bethany Christian
Triton collected 35 points off 26 Bethany Christian turnovers, and the Class A No. 9 Lady Trojans bounced back from a loss to NorthWood with a 57-28 rout on the road in Elkhart Monday.
Triton’s frontcourt beat out Bethany’s backcourt in the win as Kylie Mason knocked down three triples on her way to a game-high 17 points, Krystal Sellers put up 14 points with nine rebounds and four assists, and Taylor Hatfield finished with 10 points and six steals.

NORTH JUDSON — Virginia Richie, 86, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, in VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
Survivors include three daughters, Geneva Minix of Summerfield, Fla., Roberta Manns of Ocklawaha, Fla., and Odgry Silcox of Hickory, N.C.; three sons, James (Louise) Richie of North Judson, Wayne (Susan) Richie of Gibsonton, Fla., and Crocket Jr. (Kathy) Richie of Dunnellon, Fla.; three sisters, Jeanette Clemons of Jackson, Ky., Francis Bagley of Knox, and Elizabeth Neace of North Judson; 125 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

ROCHESTER — Catherine Brubaker, 94, of Rochester, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Gary) Wilkinson of Carmel; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ned (Millie) Bemenderfer of South Bend.

ELKHART — Martha Jane Mann, 87, a resident of Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart, passed away of natural causes at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.
The daughter of Russell L. and Eva L. McCloud VanVactor, Martha was born in Plymouth, Jan. 18, 1925.
She was a 1943 graduate of Plymouth High School, where she played percussion in the band. She also played the guitar. Upon graduation, she worked for NIPSCO and enjoyed getting together with her former co-workers for many years.
