MARSHALL CO. — The LaPaz Lions Club is hard at work on a project that was near and dear to two former Marshall County Historical Society board members’ hearts.
Elizabeth Marshall and Kathryn Weissert, who have both passed away, had focused for some time on erecting signs at the county’s unmarked cemeteries. Lions secretary and treasurer Don Balka said that for those looking for genealogy information, unmarked cemeteries can pose a real problem.

Blazers beat Triton at Culver championship

October 22, 2012

CULVER — Heading into Saturday’s Culver Sectional championship match, Triton head coach Samantha Keel knew Marquette’s Zoya Ganz would be hard to handle.

Area runners close at New Prairie Semistate

October 22, 2012

NEW CARLISLE — As long as an athlete gives his best effort, there’s not much more a coach can ask.
And since — realistically — neither Plymouth nor Culver Academies had cross country teams that expected to reach the state finals, Saturday’s IHSAA semistate at New Prairie was a chance to finish the season on a high note.
Or, at least, try to.
“Everybody ran reasonably well,” said Eagles coach Mike Chastain following the 5,000-meter tournament in New Carlisle. “Our job (next year) will be to improve. That’s what we will work on.”
