Afflicted by severe tremors in his arms, legs, and other muscles, Schmidt, retired from Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, had deteriorated steadily over the 14 years since he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
GOSHEN — There is a history of the unexpected when Plymouth’s Rockies visit Foreman Field in Goshen and while the Rockies walked away with a convincing 28-16 Northern Lakes Conference win, it didn’t come without a price.
WALKERTON — Deep inside, Derek Hiler must have the heart of a boxer. When he gets knocked down, he immediately gets back up.
After being stopped cold a week ago against New Prairie, where the Cougar = defense held him to just 13 yards rushing, Hiler bounced back in a big way Friday night.
The Falcon senior rushed for 159 yards and scored three touchdowns as Glenn trounced Culver Community, 35-6. Oh, and Hiler was named Glenn’s Homecoming king, as well.
BOURBON — On a wet, soggy night, Knox came to Bourbon and handed the Triton Trojans their seventh loss of the season by a score of 28-7. Triton played better than the score would show, but five turnovers kept them from keeping the score close.
According to Triton head coach Rodney Younis you can’t expect anything but a loss with that many turnovers.
“Bottom line is turnovers hurt us,” Younis said. “You can’t expect to win ball games when you turn it over as much as we did tonight. Our effort was good tonight, but it’s hard to win ball games when you turn it over as much as we did.”
BREMEN — Bremen scuffled to a slow start, and when the long green line finally got rolling, it was too little, too late in a loss to visiting Jimtown Friday.
The Lions outplayed Class 3A No. 1 Jimtown 6-0 in the second half, holding the unbeaten Jimmies to their lowest points production and slimmest margin of victory this year with the second-half shutout. But none of it was enough to pull the home team back from a 21-0 halftime deficit as Bremen suffered a 21-6 Northern State Conference setback at Don Bunge Field.
