WALKERTON — Wesley Setnor, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Louise; three sons, Larry (Jamie) Setnor, Michael (Linda) Setnor and Joe (Pat) Setnor; one daughter, Sandy (Mark) Easterday; one brother, Joe Setnor; one sister, Ann Mikosh; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.Â

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral, Fla. resident George W. Williams died Oct. 6, 2012 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla. George was a kind, generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His family cherished his intelligence and charity to everyone in his life. George’s love, influence and character will live forever in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
PLYMOUTH — Now that it’s clear that the School of Inquiry is not promoting homosexuality, students have returned to their study of major world religions. Teacher Grant Masson said Wednesday that he’s never seen students so inspired by a project.
“The controversy (over the project) made it even more powerful because the students realized that people were watching what they were learning and that people cared what they were learning,” said Masson.
LAKEVILLE — Last year Argos’ overwhelmingly young squad got a little starstruck in the Dragons’ first foray at semistate in a decade. Two early goals led to a snowball effect as the team was eliminated in an eventual 8-0 loss at the hands of Bethany Christian.
But with eight starters back with the squad from that campaign, another year and a repeat regional championship under its belt, Argos’ boys soccer team is finally feeling like it belongs as the Dragons (19-1-1) open the LaVille Semistate against Guerin Catholic (18-0-1) Saturday at noon.
While nearly all area teams drew road games in the opening round of the IHSAA’s State Football Tournament, one team will have home field advantage as John Glenn plays host to Culver Military Academy in the Sectional 17 opener.
The last time the two teams met back in Week 6 of the regular season, the Eagles (7-2) dealt Glenn (4-5) a 20-7 loss at home at Oliver Field, and the Falcons are hoping to return the favor in Week 1 of the playoffs.
SOUTH BEND — Is BYU coming to town or BC?
Serious Notre Dame football fans know that the first time ESPN’s College Gameday aired from a college campus, it was in South Bend for the Florida State-ND game in 1993. That game, won by the Irish, determined the No. 1 team in the country — at least for a week. The very next Saturday, Boston College paid a visit and stunned the Irish, upsetting ND and making the stay at the top of the polls a short one.
Do you hear that? That’s the sound of a building, collective hatred aimed toward South Bend.
Notre Dame haters are apoplectic with the Irish sitting at 6-0 and off to its best start since 2002.
Some say that the Irish don’t deserve the accolades. And that they don’t deserve a No. 5 ranking in the BCS.
To that I say, Why not?
The Irish front seven on defense are as good as any team not named Alabama.
Their secondary, though young, has forced turnovers at key times.
The offensive line is veteran and dependable.
They have a solid, if not above average, run game.
