Argos’ Allison Flowers scored the go-ahead goal in the Lady Dragons’ repeat regional championship win over Wheeler at home Saturday.
Culver Military’s Leopoldo Burguete followed up a championship finish at the CMA Cross Country Sectional last Tuesday with a fourth-place finish at regional Saturday.
FULTON — After handing Oak Hill a narrow 3-2 defeat in last year’s regional semifinal, Argos’ boys soccer team knew the Golden Eagles would be gunning hard for them. With the Dragons trailing 3-1 midway through the second half, it looked like the challengers might just get the reprisal they’d been hoping for.
ARGOS — With forward Allison Flower visibly struggling with an injury to her right foot, Argos girls soccer coach Jon Alcorn pulled her off the field early in the first half.
The senior two-year starter begged her coach to put her back in. Alcorn conceded, and Flower made the most of the opportunity.
CULVER — In cross country, the sixth runner rarely gets the glory.
They labor all season long with performances that never quite make a difference on the final scoresheet. But it was the Lady Pilgrims’ sixth runner that made all the difference Saturday.
Miranda Hacha’s 44th place result pushed Plymouth’s girls over the top in a tiebreaker with NorthWestern, and the team earned its third straight semistate berth with a fifth-place finish at the Culver Academies Cross Country Regional.
PLYMOUTH — A concerned citizen recently took issue with “Mix-It-Up Day,” a Plymouth High School event intended to encourage students to sit with someone new during lunch period.
The citizen, a member of Crossroads Evangelical Free Church in Plymouth, was under the impression that this event promoted homosexuality.
PLYMOUTH — Local pet owners interested in spoiling their furry friend now have expanded options. Unique Pet Boutique and Grooming Salon opened in the Kroger shopping plaza last week, and owners Mike and Mary Flores, of Plymouth, can’t wait for the word to get out about their new shop.
“We carry a lot of pet clothing, specialty foods, and products that you can’t find at Wal-Mart,” said Mary.
