A throng of hundreds braved chilly winds off Lake Maxinkuckee Friday, Oct. 5 for the official dedication of Culver Academies' majestic new White Devries Rowing Center, which not only replaces the longtime "crew shed" at the eastern end of the campus, but places in Culver a rowing facility to compare with the finest in the world.

Argos advances at Caston Regional

October 12, 2012

FULTON — Argos sophomore striker Damon Binkley has already put in plenty of hero moments for his team this season.
On Thursday, he added a few more.
Fresh off his sectional championship-sealing score in the final minute against Bremen last Saturday, Binkley notched a hat trick and an assist, helping power the Dragons to a 4-2 Caston Regional Semifinal win over Carroll.

Eagles look to complete perfect home slate against Fairfield as area teams cap off regular season tonight

October 12, 2012

The Eagles have a lot to play for tonight.
At the start of the season, Culver Military head football coach Andy Dorrel had a hunch this year’s squad might be able to have a special season, and at 6-2, his team is on the verge of its first perfect home slate since 2005, which has included wins over Class A No. 1 Lafayette Central Catholic and Class 2A No. 4 Churubusco in Weeks 4 and 7.
A win over Fairfield tonight would provide a fitting Senior Night capper to the Eagles’ regular season as well as a good springboard into CMA’s Sectional 17 opener at John Glenn next week.

Vervynckt is Plymouth’s ‘rock’ at 1 singles

October 12, 2012

PLYMOUTH — To think, one of Plymouth’s all-time best tennis players was nearly a soccer player instead.
Last Saturday, Pilgrims senior No. 1 Gabe Vervynckt became the school’s first LaPorte Regional qualifier in recent memory at the Culver Military Individual Sectional. His 7-5, 7-5 win over previously unbeaten North Judson foreign exchange student Thomas Simon earned him the right to advance and pushed him to a career record of 72-26 at Plymouth, a program record for singles wins.
But in the weeks before his freshman tennis season, Veryvnckt was leaning towards soccer instead.
