Wednesday, approximately 180 soldiers of the 381st MP Unit from Indiana will be deployed to Afghanistan. About 90 of the soldiers are from northern Indiana, out of the Plymouth National Guard Armory. Members of the Plymouth American Legion, VFW, DAV and Plymouth FOP Lodge 195 are planning a deployment ceremony Wednesday, Jan. 4.
The 30-minute ceremony will be held at the National Guard Armory on West Madison Street at 1 p.m. U.S. Congressman Joe Donnelly, State Representative Nance Dembowski, and Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter will be guest speakers.
ROCHESTER â€” When 21-year-old Mallory Wyatt, of Rochester, decided to make a video last week to encourage young people struggling with being bullied, she never imagined the response she would get.
â€śI decided I wanted to make a video to show people that they donâ€™t always know what is going on in others' lives, and they shouldnâ€™t make fun of (people),â€ť said Wyatt. â€śI just thought (people) in Rochester would see it.â€ť
PLYMOUTH â€” Hoosier Tire and Rubber Corporation, a long-standing employer in the local area, recently announced that 20 positions would result from their planned expansion in 2012. The company will be incorporating a rubber mixing plant to their existing facility in Plymouth.

PLYMOUTH â€” â€śWhat does every band want?â€ť asks Britney Conway. â€śGroupiesâ€ť is the obvious answer, and that is how the name for the popular local cover-band Groupies Wanted came to exist.
It may be said that Josh Ortiz is the heartbeat of this band, as its drummer, but Conway is the creative mastermind behind the catchy name.

WINONA LAKE â€”Â Glenna Irene Shuter, 85, of Winona Lake passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at 8:13 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 13, 1926 in Plymouth to Glenn Sherer and Dessie (Shadley) Sherer. Sept. 3, 1944 she was married to Virgil Shuter, who preceded her in death in 2005.
Glenna was a 1944 graduate of Aurora High School in Aurora, with a Steno Bookkeeping Civil Service Degree.
She was a self-employed hairdresser for many years retiring in 1988.

PLYMOUTH â€”Â Mary Ellen (Workman) Hite-Haag Davis passed away at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor in Plymouth, Dec. 31, 2011 at 11 a.m. She was born in Ober, July 20, 1923. May 1, 1940 she married Raymond Hite; they later were divorced after 26 years.
Mary is survived by four children â€” John Hite and wife Jean of Hurst, Texas; Sherry Hite of Oakland, Calif.; Rick Hite and wife Janice of Plymouth; and Carl Hite of Rochester; daughter-in-law Joyce Moore of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

GOSHEN â€”Â Naomi Mae Everett, 81, Goshen, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1 at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2 at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen. Burial is in Bremen Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church or Greencroft Foundation Benevolent Fund.

BREMEN â€”Â Betty June Williams, 70, of Bremen, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at her home.
She is survived by one brother, Chester (Sandra) Williams of Anderson; two sisters, Ruby (Larry) Layman of Bourbon, Dixie (Cecil) Davenport of Hoffman Lake; three daughters Betty Lynn (Troy) Swanson of Atwood, Kassy (Josh) Kenevan of Nappanee, Christie (Michael) Fowler of Elkhart; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. at her residence (1140 Sherman Street, Bremen.)
