PLYMOUTH — The annual Jefferson Jackson Democratic Dinner held Sunday night featured three speakers.
Speaking at the event were Brendan Mullen, 2nd Congressional District Democratic Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives; Nancy Dembowski, currently serving in the Indiana State House of Representatives; and Pete Buttigieg, Democratic candidate for Mayor of South Bend.
Mullen said, “What is needed is family, fellowship, hard work and service.”
PLYMOUTH — Chilly weather complete with a downpour of rain on Saturday didn’t keep 60 motorcycle riders from participating in the 4th Annual Ride for “Shop with a Cop-Christmas for Kids.”
The ride started at Young Amphitheatre in Plymouth and took riders to Rochester, Bass Lake and then back to the American Legion hall in Plymouth. Following the ride, a meal and auction were held as well.
One of the organizers, Jeff Stewart said, “We can’t thank the community enough for their support in monetary and gift donations.”
Culver resident Jean Triplet may represent the last local link to the bygone days of small-town pharmacies, so well remembered by many here. After 49 years in the business, Triplet has retired from CVS Pharmacy in Culver, though her earliest years behind the drug-store counter were at beloved local pharmacy Mr. T's.
KENDALLVILLE — A trio of area golfers finished out their seasons as the weather nearly derailed the East Noble Girls Golf Regional Saturday.
Plymouth’s Emily Berger shot a 98, while Triton’s Sydney Gochenour carded a 97, and Culver Girls Academy’s Mackenzie Toth shot a 99 in the persistent drizzle at Noble Hawk.
Led by Heidi Morganthaler’s round of 78, NorthWood found itself in contention to advance with a 368 as lightning delayed the regional tilt for several hours, and darkness eventually forced the suspension of play with several teams set to resume their rounds today.
PLYMOUTH — A penalty kick on a controversial call left Plymouth down two goals and chasing visiting Northridge, and the Rockies lost an eventual 5-1 Northern Lakes Conference decision to the Raiders at Kindt Soccerplex Saturday.
Plymouth went into the half trailing 1-0 after Steven Hooley scored on a Cameron Miller assist in the game’s 15th minute, but it was Miller’s pk in the 43rd minute that put Plymouth into press mode, and Northridge capitalized with two more goals during an eight-minute span between the game’s 50th and 58th minutes to put the game out of reach.
John Glenn’s Josh Anderson rushed for 234 yards and five touchdowns in the Falcons’ 48-21 victory over Culver Military Academy Friday at Glenn.
NorthWood’s Cynthia Medina won the girls closed race at the prestigious Culver Academies Cross Country Invitational Saturday with a time of 19:09.
