Culver council won’t weigh in on wind farm controversy

Culver's town council has dropped any plans to hear from the Florida-based energy company propsing a wind farm in the Fulton and Marshall County area, after members cited too many differences of opinion to hope to reach a resolution on the matter.
Discussing a suggestion made by some audience members the council's previous meeting, that the council should take a position on the controversial project, council member Ed Pinder said members discussed the matter.

Pink fundraising a success

PLYMOUTH — The baked goods were already selling out.
Pink cupcakes, cookies, rice crispies, and other sugary treats covered a table near the entrance of the Plymouth soccerplex Thursday night. Stacy Scheetz, faculty organizer for Plymouth High School’s Operation Leadership group, cautioned spectators entering the stadium to buy before there was nothing left.
The bake sale was part of Operation Leadership’s weeklong efforts to raise money for the Nancy Jaynes memorial scholarship. Jaynes was a teacher at PHS for 30 years before passing away due to breast cancer in 2008.

Lauck interim for LaVille

LAKEVILLE — The Union-North United School Board unanimously approved the appointment of Julie Lauck as interim Superintendent.
Lauck will officially begin with the corporation Oct. 3 to coincide with the departure of current Superintendent Dr. Terry Barker.
Barker was recently named as Superintendent of School City of Mishawaka.
Lauck, who resides in New Carlisle, will be working with the Union-North Corporation three days per week, but will also be available for any pressing matters that should arise.

PLYMOUTH — Margaret Hayden, 85, a resident of Plymouth since 1967, joined her beloved husband C. R. in God’s heaven after a brief battle with cancer Monday, Sept. 19 at 8:45 a.m. in Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth.
Margaret Sirois was born Aug. 2, 1926, the third child of Earl “Frenchy” and Fern Sirois in Shelby.
“Margy” graduated from Lowell High School in 1944 and took pride in being voted the best athlete in her class, beating out future husband Dick in the voting.

BREMEN — Rose M. Wemette, 74, of 500 S. Montgomery St., Apartment #110, Bremen, passed away at 7:35 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Elkhart Hospice House in Elkhart.
Rose was born Nov. 21, 1936, in Peoria, Ill., to William B. and Betty Jane (Ray) Ramsay. Rose was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Bremen, the Plymouth Women of the Moose #705, and the Bremen Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #8972. She was retired from management in construction, heating and air conditioning, and Al Steel.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Sunday.
