Culver rolls out red carpet for injured veterans

September 1, 2011

Culver rolled out the red carpet and opened its heart recently for the families of several wounded U.S. veterans, something organizers hope will become an annual affair.
What began as an almost chance conversation between Culver Academies' International Director Tony Giraldi (also a 1975 graduate of the school) and a few members of the school's board of trustees, became a collaboration between a number of national, international, and local organizations to make some very positive things happen for veterans' families.

Nursing home gets 'report card from state'

September 1, 2011

PLYMOUTH — When a loved one moves into a nursing home, friends and family want to know that they will be safe and well cared for. One of the ways families can find a good nursing home is by looking at the number of deficiencies the establishment has received in its yearly state inspection. A deficiency could be as big as a health code violation or as small as a single insect.
Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth has been deficiency-free for the past two years, a fact that they are very proud of. Dawn Fogle, activities director, attributes their success to teamwork.

Conference season opens in earnest with Week 3

September 1, 2011

The championship season starts now.
For most teams Week 3 means conference openers, and historically league titles in either the Northern Lakes or the Northern State Conference have often meant a perfect record. Plymouth hits the road for perhaps its biggest NLC rival at Warsaw, while Bremen looks for a measure of revenge against visiting NSC foe New Prairie, and fellow NSC contenders Culver and Triton clash at Culver.

Triton tests Plymouth in loss

September 1, 2011

PLYMOUTH — While they are potential sectional foes, Wednesday’s non-conference meet was largely a way for both teams to sharpen their competitive instincts for their league schedules.
And while the meet score may not have reflected it, Plymouth’s 5-0 win over Triton featured some competitive matches on several positions at the Pilgrims’ home court in Centennial Park.
It was a good test for an undefeated Plymouth team that hasn’t been tested much yet this year.
