Nas-wau-kee Indian marker in Culver still needs funds

Donations are still needed to fund the metal plaque to attach to the boulder for the Chief Nas-wau-kee historical marker at Lake Maxinkuckee. The dedication will be September 16 at 5 p.m. The boulder was placed and landscaped by Boy Scout Bryan McKinney for his Eagle award.
The plaque will be 20x24 inches and cost $750. To donate to help pay for the Nas-wau-kee plaque, please send check to Potawatomi Trail of Death Assn., Fulton Co. Hist. Soc, 37 E 375 N, Rochester IN 46975. FCHS is a not-for-profit 501( c ) 3 corporation so donations are tax deductible.

2004 Plymouth graduate travels to Ghana

PLYMOUTH —Jim Kubley, 26, son of Dr. Rod and Sue Kubley and a 2004 graduate of Plymouth High School, is home for a short visit following a 27 month stint with the Peace Corps.

Jim graduated from Bethel College in 2008 having majored in Economics and Business Administration.
He took some time off, volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club before receiving his nomination and invitation to join the Peace Corps.

Lady Dragons start slow in loss

ARGOS — The Argos girls soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Kankakee Valley Saturday.
The Kougars got a great start from Hannah Wilder, who scored twice in the first half. Natalie Lotz put a damper on hopes for a Dragon rally with a score just before the half to put the visitors up 3-0.

Culver’s McBee, NorthWood’s Brewer on 1st IUSB volleyball team

SOUTH BEND — Two local athletes will be in the lineup as the first-ever Indiana University South Bend varsity volleyball team hits the court for its opener against Purdue Calumet on Thursday.
Culver Community freshman opposite hitter Patrice McBee, and NorthWood sophomore defensive specialist Bethany Brewer will be on IUSB’s inaugural squad for the 2011 season.
