Miller time in Bremen as Lions beat Rockies

August 20, 2011

BREMEN — Braxston Miller was rock solid Friday night.
The 5-foot-11, 198-pound senior back rambled 20 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns, helping Bremen post a 21-8 victory over Plymouth in high school football action at a packed Don Bunge Field.
Miller scored on runs of nine and five yards as the Lions (1-0) ended a 14-game losing streak to Plymouth (0-1).
Senior quarterback Nate Leeper tossed for 88 yards and one score to lead Bremen to its first win over the Rockies since 1988.

Triton can't dam Hoover, Caston

August 20, 2011

BOURBON — Triton's football team never quite found a way to dam Hoover, or any other Caston player for that matter.
Caston senior running back Trevor Hoover tore up 188 rushing yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the visiting Comets to a 49-28 season-opening win Friday.
All told, Caston, which scored 21 unanswered points to open the game, piled up 378 total yards — 355 on the ground — and sent five different players into the end zone behind a dominating offensive line.

CULVER — Seven yards, a few inches, one play.
Whichever numbers you measure by, Culver Community came up just short in a 26-21 loss to visiting West Central Friday.

South Central overpowers LaVille, 40-0

August 20, 2011

LAKEVILLE — During a high school football game, when two of the best players on the opposing team have names like Biggs and Sturdy and they are not the 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman or the 6-1, 220-pound fullback, you could be in trouble.
That is the situation LaVille High School found itself in Friday night as the 12th-ranked Class A and defending sectional-champion South Central Satellites dished out a 40-0 season-opening defeat on the Lancers behind a punishing running game.
