Post 27 closes season with pair of regional losses

PLYMOUTH — It was deja vu all over again as the big inning made all the difference in each of Plymouth’s losses at its home regional Saturday.
At the end of a back-and-forth battle between Post 27 and South Bend Post 50 in an extra-inning contest at Bill Nixon Field Saturday morning, South Bend tied it up in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out, two-strike RBI single by Alex Kohler and took the lead for good with a seven-inning 10th frame to trump Plymouth 18-13.

Academies choir makes beautiful music in Austria

When you hear the name Mozart, you might associate it with words such as “child prodigy,” “classical music,” or “talented composer.”

But for 21 Culver Academies students, the name Mozart will yield the sights and sounds of Salzburg, Austria – home of the Mozart International Choral Festival. On June 28, the students and five adults departed the United States en route to Salzburg, Austria, where they were invited to sing in the second annual Mozart International Choral Festival.

Hackworth pitches Post 27 past Highland

PLYMOUTH — One down, two to go.
James Hackworth pitched a three-hit gem, and Plymouth’s modified lineup produced 14 hits as Post 27 dimed Highland Post 180 12-1 in an abbreviated seven-inning contest in the first round of American Legion Baseball Regional action Friday night at Bill Nixon Field.
Plymouth will take on South Bend Post 50 — which topped Bristol Post 143 11-1 in eight innings in the regional opener Friday — at 1 p.m. Saturday.

PLYMOUTH — Albert “Al” L. Odiorne, 87, of Plymouth died July 19, 2011 at 8:20 a.m. in his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche; sons, Tom (Alom) Odiorne of Atlanta, Steve (Cindy) Odiorne of Plymouth; daughter, Marcia (Tim) Barts of Bremen; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Isabel Kitson and Gertie (Dutch) Schaal.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — Russell (Pete) M. Porcher, 95, of Sevierville, Tenn. passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Mr. Porcher was a sheet metal worker and union member for more than 50 years and his hobbies included fishing and intricate woodworking. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Warner Porcher; parents, Harry and Laura Porcher; grandson, Scott W. Plummer; and brothers, Howard and Clarence Porcher.
He is survived by a daughter, Kay Williams; niece, Eleanor Heckaman; and nephew, Charles Porcher.

He is survived by three daughters, Sonja (Phillip) Mow of Middletown, Del., Pat (Gary) Huppert of Rochester, and Lori (Bobby) Schoen of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Joyce Morgan of Nashville, Tenn; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Debra Ferguson, Danny Casad and Douglas Casad, all of Lakeville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Dolores Clady and Esther Casad and brother, Harry Casad Jr., all of Lakeville.

PLYMOUTH — Longtime Plymouth businessman, Lowell R. Greenlee, 86, passed away Sunday morning, July 17, 2011 at 5:50 a.m. in the Bremen Health Care of natural causes. Lowell was an Olive Trail resident in Plymouth for the past 50 years.
He was born in Plymouth Feb. 26, 1925, the son of Robert E. and Rena M. (Lawrence) Greenlee.
