BREMEN â Helen L. Johnson, 98, formerly of Riley Road, North Liberty and Sherman Street, Bremen, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011 in the Bremen Health Care Nursing Home, Bremen. She was born Sept. 17, 1912 in Marshall County to the late Wilbur Maxson and Beth âBessieâ (Armentrout) Phillips and lived in this area all of her life. March 19, 1932 in Plymouth, she married Chester Johnson, who preceded her in death Aug. 14, 1974.

KNOX â James Walter Keen, 59, of Knox died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Starke Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Keen of Knox; son, Steve (Debra) Keen of LaPaz; two grandchildren; brothers, Mark (Pat) Keen of Plymouth, Scott (Melody) Keen of Columbus; and sisters, Elizabeth Sallee of Knox and Jeanne Keen of Knox.
Visitation was Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox.
Funeral service was Monday, July 25 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Methodist Church.
Burial is at Crown Hill Cemetery, Knox.

Culverâs rich history will come alive in a unique way starting Monday, August 1 with the first installment of Culver Academies Museum & Gift Shopâs âCulver History Film Fest.â For several evenings this summer, rare historical films culled from Culver Academiesâ archives -- many recently restored and remastered from vintage, reel films -- will be screened at the museum, located at 102 S. Main Street in downtown Culver. Introductions to each film will provide historical context, and refreshments will be served.

PLYMOUTH â How many children have an imaginary friend who is a pig? Authors Chip Gilbertson and Gina Restivo use a pig to tell the inspiring story of a boy who learns to believe in himself in their first book, âFly, Danny, Fly.â Behind the sweet narrative and colorful illustrations, however, is a real cause.
A portion of the proceeds from the book will go to the Danny Did Foundation, a non-profit founded by Mike and Mariann Stanton of Chicago after their 4-year-old son Danny died in 2009 from Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
PLYMOUTH â Three Culver golfers won their division at the final Marshall County Junior Golf Tour event at Plymouth Rock Golf Course and seized tour championships in the process.
Zach Allyn of Culver shot an 82 at Plymouth Rock, winning the Boys 16-17 division at the meet and topping the final standings for the division by one point with 20. Kendall Fosler of Plymouth also shot an 82 at Plymouth Rock and finished fifth in the final standings with 16 points.

PLYMOUTH â Barn Quilts have been popping up all over Marshall County and if you havenât yet had the opportunity to take the Marshall County Barn Quilt trail â well the Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau has made it easy for you. The Barn Quilt Trail takes you through picturesque country and main roads from which you can view the barn quilts. There are two ways that you can find where the barn quilts are situated. ONE: For a self-guided tour just stop by the Visitorâs Bureau at 220 N. Center St.

PLYMOUTH â The cornfield looked empty, just a mass of stalks bending under the sunâs heat.
A few minutes later, however, a large red tractor became visible over the tops of the corn. Groups of kids, all wearing neon orange hats to shield their face from the sun, jumped off the long arms attached to the tractor, brushing cornstalk remnants off their hands. They were in the middle of a long morning of detassling corn â and it was time for a break.
â(The job) has itâs ups and downs,â said Derrick Lee, one of the detasslers, Thursday. âEspecially on days like today. Itâs hot!â

PLYMOUTH â Families will have the chance to avoid the line at school registration for the coming year as Plymouth Community Schools has a new partner for an online option.
A company named InfoSnap will provide the option for parents of Plymouth students.
Through one simplified process, parents will be able to complete all of the registration forms and share family information between siblings, without having to reenter the information for each child.

Walking the Lincoln Highway, sponsored by the Indiana Volkssport Association (part of the larger American Volkssport Association or AVA) is a group of five different walking routes (chose from 5K or 10K) in Valparaiso, Warsaw, Columbia City, Fort Wayne and Plymouth.
