The Culver Board of Zoning Appeals had a full agenda with two continuances and five new petitions for variance of ordinance standards. The continuance for Dave Pitera, 522 S. Plymouth St. was quickly handled and his petition of a north side yard setback to allow a garage addition was approved.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Tyner and Tippacanoe post offices are two of around 95 low-activity post offices in Indiana placed recently on a list for review by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
Mary Dando, a USPS representative, said Wednesday that the fact that the offices were under review did not necessarily mean they would be closing.
“They are on the list — that means they are under study, but there won’t be a decision made one way or the other until December (or later),” said Dando.

LAPAZ — A line at the drink station started to form around lunch time Tuesday in the Lapaz Burger King. Coca-Cola had just installed their new drink machine—featuring 125 flavors—that morning and these lunch customers were among the first to try it out.
“It’s different—it’s pretty slick actually,” said Randy Walker as he used the machine’s touch screen to choose his beverage.
Walker, a trucker who resides in Kentucky, said he passes through the area about once a week. He likes the new machine, but is not too sure about the 125 flavors.
“I’ll stick to Coke,” said Walker, smiling.
CULVER — Matt Thompson has joined Culver Academies as the new Director of Athletics. Thompson comes to Culver from Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where he spent four years as the associate athletic director, physical education teacher and coach.
Prior to his time at BCDS, he served as the athletic director, Spanish teacher, and coach at the Knox School in St. James, New York. Over the course of his career, Thompson spent time as an athletic administrator and women’s soccer coach at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Centenary College in New Jersey.
LAFAYETTE — Triton High School’s Quentyn Carpenter won his first match play round but lost his second at the Indiana Golf Foundation Boys State Junior Championships at Kampen Golf Course at Purdue University in Lafayette Wednesday.
Carpenter beat Oliver Gibson of Fort Wayne before falling by a hole to Logan Barker in the second round of match play.
Carpenter qualified for the match play round of the State Junior Championships with a 76 Monday and 77 Tuesday in the stroke play qualifying portion of the tourney.
