Culver history bike ride hits town June 18

The Bike Barn, at 103 Lake Shore Drive in Culver, will once again team up with the Antiquarian and Historical Society of Culver for a bicycle tour of the town of Culver on Saturday, June 18, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Bike Barn.
Bicyclists are in­vited to bring their own bikes and hel­mets for the free event, which will be led by Jeff Kenney of the Society and is expected to cover no more than four to five miles of riding.

Bremen hires Ryan Eakins as new b-ball coach

BREMEN — Bremen High School has hired former Mount Vernon Nazarene University JV coach Ryan Eakins as its new head basketball coach.
Eakins was the JV men’s basketball coach at Mount Vernon Nazarene in Mount Vernon, Ohio during the 2010-11 season and is a former assistant coach at his alma mater, Grace College. He is moving to the town of Bremen where he plans to be a substitute teacher in the Bremen Public School System.
Eakins played basketball at Grace College and Seymour High School.

Triton, CMA golf teams heading to Homestead Regional Thursday

FORT WAYNE — A sectional championship is nice, but Triton’s boys golf team has even bigger fish to fry.
The Trojans won their first-ever sectional title by beating out four-peat defending champion Warsaw with a fifth-man score on the Tigers’ home course at Stonehenge Golf Club last Friday. But Triton head coach Jack Carpenter pledged his team wouldn’t be resting on any laurels as the little Class A squad hunts for a second-straight state finals berth at the Homestead Regional Thursday.

Plymouth’s Harner wins First Annual T. Edward Ummel Young Referee Award

BREMEN — The North Central Soccer Association (NCSA) awarded Plymouth's Micah Harner the First Annual T. Edward Ummel Young Referee of the Year Award last weekend during the NCSA tournament in Bremen.
Ummel, a local attorney active in family, civic, church and soccer activities, passed away last October. He was the long-time treasurer of Argos Youth Soccer (AYS) as well as a coach, and he also served the NCSA in scheduling games and as the NCSA referee instructor.
