WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — Thomas Lee Bridegroom, 29, Woodland Hills, Calif., formerly of Knox, died Saturday, May 7, 2011.
He is survived by his parents, Norman and Martha (Parker) Bridegroom; sister, Kim Butts of North Liberty; and a brother, David Bridegroom of Knox.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. (EST) Monday, May 16 at the M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 at the Memorial Chapel at Culver Academy, Culver.

Don was born April 4, 1937 in Starke County, Ind. to Peter and Alma (Lowe) Paul and lived in the area most of his life. March 1, 1957 in Knox, he was married to the former Mabel I. Rice.Â

PLYMOUTH — Verna J. Green, age 83, of Oakhill Ave, Plymouth, Ind., passed away at 4:40 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Miller’s Merry Manor, in Plymouth.

Indiana’s 2011 state wrestling champion Jeremiah Harvey, a senior at Culver Community High School and the first at the school to earn the distinction, was awarded his official state championship ring last week at the school. Harvey won the championship in February, part of a remarkably victorious season for community schools’ athletic programs. PLYMOUTH — The second and third grade students at St. Michael Catholic School were out in full force for their turn in the fifth annual Race for Education Thursday.
Clad in tie dyed T-shirts, the sweating children were on a mission to raise money for their school — and to have fun doing it.
“I got 32 punches!” said second-grader Owen Bockman, proudly holding up his punch card. “That’s three miles.”

PLYMOUTH — 17-year-old Brittney Himes is no stranger to the Boys & Girls Club of Marshall County.
“She has been coming here since she was 8 years old,” said Billie Treber, executive director.
Himes’ experience during her years as a member, a volunteer, and now as junior staff contributed to her being named the 2011 Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year. The award is given by the board of directors at the club, based on written recommendations by staff members. Criteria for the award includes club involvement as well as setting a good example.

PLYMOUTH — With the weather heating up, JESSE students from around the area put on their gardening gloves for the day.
Brandi Schoolman, Tyler Vasquez and Taylor Langford joined up with Johnna Ramer and Marsha St. Cin to do a little hard labor in preparation of the harvest to come. The group started spreading new soil in beds at the Community Garden next to the Farmer’s Market in preparation of planting produce and flowers for the coming summer.

WAKARUSA — Nellie M. Evashenko, 95, of Wakarusa, formerly of Eugene, Ore., died unexpectedly at 11:44 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at her home, of natural causes.Â
She is survived by a daughter, Joy (Willard N.) Slabaugh, Wakarusa; son, Philip D. (Debra) Evashenko, Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.Â
James T. Miller

WALKERTON — James T. Miller, 55, passed away at his 4B Road residence Tuesday evening, May 10, 2011 at 9 p.m.  He remained at home in the care of his family and the Center for Hospice after enduring a several year illness.
Jim was born the son of Ray W. and Esther L. (Stone) Miller March 18, 1956 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was raised in Plymouth and graduated from PHS in 1975 where he played football and basketball and was known as “Big Jim.”
