PLYMOUTH â The annual Marshall County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner held Wednesday night gave Master of Ceremonies Dean Colvin an opportunity to thank those currently running for an elected office and acknowledge the many loyal Republicans who have led or supported the party in the past.
Speaking to a large crowd assembled at Christosâ Banquet Hall, Colvin said, âOne of the things about Republicans is the work that is done behind the scenes by the âfoot soldiers.ââ
Barbara Esther (Whan) Hughes

CULVER â Barbara Esther (Whan) Hughes, 94, of Walnut Creek, Calif., formerly of Culver, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at Sophiaâs Care House in Walnut Creek, Calif.
She is survived by two daughters, Johanna Trickovic of Orinda, Calif., and Greta Berlin of bar Sur Loup France; son, Eric of Oakland, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Kenneth L. Luse

PLYMOUTH â Kenneth L. Luse, 80, a lifetime Plymouth resident, passed away in the company of his family following an extended illness. Ken resided with his loving wife Mary of 61 years, on Redbud Drive.
Ken had many friends and was a regular at the McDonaldâs morning coffee club. Kenâs comic nature never knew a stranger as he sought humor in everyday life. Most importantly he was a devoted Christian and family man who was âalways thereâ for them and the needs of others.
BREMEN â After a disappointing home loss to Triton last Friday, the Pilgrims were hoping for a strong showing this week.
Theyâre off to a good start.
Plymouth scored four runs in the top of the first and added on scores in all but two innings, while junior lefty Jordan Scheetz scattered five hits for two runs in five frames of work on the mound as the Pilgrims beat Bremen 12-4 on the road Wednesday.
It was Plymouthâs second road victory in two games after a win at Rochester Tuesday night.

Organizers of Culver's fourth annual, all-night Relay for Life have confirmed the return of NFL Colts placekicker Adam Vinatieri Friday evening to the event.

PLYMOUTH â It was a celebration that took 50 years in the making but it was well worth the wait.
Fifty years ago, local leaders formed an organization to lend a helping hand and contribute to a better way of life in Marshall County. From its early forms to becoming the United Way of Marshall County, the agency has truly done all it can to help many organizations that have made a difference in the lives of residents.

BREMEN â Harold Eshelman, 86, of Bremen, formerly of South Bend, died at 4:35 p.m. April 5, 2011 at in Bremen Health Care.
He is survived by sisters: Clara Webb of Osceola, and Betty Richards, Patricia Promroy, Mary Jones, Phyllis Northcutt, and Cindy Keyser, all of South Bend; two brothers, Richard Shank of Jacksonville, Fla. and Thomas Shank of Elkhart; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. aSaturday at the funeral home.

PLYMOUTH â Joyce I. Dawson, 85, of Heber City, Utah, formerly of Plymouth, Ind., died of natural causes in the Rocky Mountain Care Center, Heber City, Utah.
Joyce was born in South Bend, Ind., July 14, 1925. She was the daughter of Ray and Nancy Yoder Granning. She attended South Bend Schools.
March 3, 1946, in South Bend, she and Charles E. Dawson, Jr., were married. Charles died April 16, 1992.

PLYMOUTH â Barry F. Wiscons, age 64, of 2401 N. Michigan Street #37, Plymouth, passed away at 7:28 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2011, at his home.Â
Barry was born April 16, 1946, in Chicago, Ill., to Frank H. Wiscons and Louise (Nardiello) Wiscons. He was the second child, and the first son born, of six children. Barry was retired, from the Holiday Inn in Plymouth, as manager, after 25 years of service. He loved nature, animals, enjoyed taking walks in the park, and handing out treats to his âgrand-pets.â
BREMEN â The Lady Lions needed a little help, but they got their first win.
Bremen broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning as freshman pinch hitter Lexi Pate scored the winning run on a throwing error from third to top visiting Plymouth 2-1 Tuesday.
âThat was a fun one,â said Bremen head coach Josh Walter. âWe just battled back at the end and made the runs happen when we had to.
