35th annual ABATE Swap Meet April 10 in Plymouth

BOURBON — Journey's End Bar and Grill, 118 S. Main St., Bourbon, will sponsor the 35th annual Region 1 ABATE of Marshall County Spring Fever Motorcycle Swap Meet Sunday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, 1220 W. Madison St., Plymouth.

13 years strong, 'Catch the Spirit' Gala continues to help many in need

PLYMOUTH — What has become a staple in the community, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center/Plymouth’s annual “Catch the Spirit” Gala, has made a remarkable difference for Marshall County residents.
For example, in 2010, SJRMC’s Plymouth campus provided services that assisted 3,361 patients and included free medical care and prescription medication assistance as well as transportation, mobile health care screenings and health fairs.

Along with the thaw loiters the promise and excitement of another carefree, barefoot summer to come.

Leadership change in progress for United Way, Foundation

PLYMOUTH — The United Way of Marshall County and the Marshall County Community Foundation announced today that their joint executive director, Jennifer Maddox, will leave her position on June 30, after serving more than four years in that role.

TIOSA — Annabelle Susan Hart, 80, of Tiosa, died at 8:45 a.m., Sunday, April 3, 2011 at her residence.
She is survived by her sons: Ed (Susan) Hart of Warsaw, Rick (Susan) Hart of Mentone, and Jim (Cindy) Hart of Elkhart; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Gelbaugh; and several nieces and nephews.

BREMEN — Janet Sue Kiefer, 75, of Bremen, passed away April 4, 2011 at 9:35 am at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa.
Janet was born Feb. 14, 1936 in Bremen to Olen and Hazel (Senff) Ernsberger. She married Henry “Hank” Kiefer on Sept. 16, 1956, he survives.

GRAY COUNT, S.C. — Sierra Lahoma McCracken, 17, of Gray Count, S.C., passed away April 1, 2011 at the Laurens County Hospital in S.C.
Sierra was born Jan. 16, 1994 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Jason James Lowe and Kimberly McCracken-Creigbaum.
A brother, Gage Arkangel of Niles, Mich.; grandparents, Harold and Mary Ann McCracken of Elkhart, Robert and Vivian Lowe of Sapula, Okla. and Nancy McCracken of Argos, survive Sierra. Also surviving is a great aunt, Olga Fuller of South Bend, and Uncle Richard and Aunt Irene Kidder of Elkhart.

Big 6th lifts Pilgrims past South Central

PLYMOUTH — It was opening day at Bill Nixon Field, and the growing pains were evident.
But the Pilgrims overcame a shaky start with 13 hits and a nine-run sixth inning to get the win over visiting Class A, No. 18 South Central, 14-10 Tuesday.
“We didn’t take advantage early in the game; we left some opportunities, but obviously that sixth inning was huge for us,” said Plymouth head baseball coach Tony Plothow. “Everybody came through with some big hits.”
