BLOOMINGTON â Plymouth High School graduate (2007) and Indiana University senior Meredith Barron will undoubtedly remember many special events from her four years at I.U., but the one scheduled for April 12 will more than likely be a standout.
Barron persuaded rapper Lil Wayne â real name Dewayne Carter â to perform at the collegeâs Assembly Hall during the annual Little 500 activities in April.
âIâve been a fan of Lil Wayne for four or five years,â Barron said. âMy friends have been talking about trying to get him to come to our campus for a long time. So, I decided to give it a try.â

LAKEVILLE â Beverly J. Goebel, 82, of Lakeville, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (John) Laureys of New Carlisle; son, David (Susan) Goebel of Plymouth; and a brother, Ron Goss of Mich.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to services Saturday, March 26 at Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St. Lakeville.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will take place at St. Paulâs Lutheran Cemetery, Woodland.

Sept. 29, 1943 â March 22, 2011
TIPPECANOE â Stella L. Curtis, 67, of Tippecanoe, died at 4:52 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Rochester, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1943 in Hasting, Minn., to Lee and Edna (Tanney) Glasby. She lived in the Argos community for the last 35 years coming from Gary, Ind. and was a homemaker.
She married Robert Roy Curtis. He preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1987.
BOURBON â When the 101st IHSAA State Basketball Finals convene at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis this weekend, only two of the eight teams will be making their first appearance.
Among the remaining six, half have made the trip more than once in the past decade. Triton will take the floor for a remarkable third time in just four years as the veteran Trojans (23-3) tip off against first-timer Indianapolis Metropolitan (21-6) in the Class A final at 10:30 a.m.

BREMEN â The community came together last Thursday for an evening of giving and friendly competition with the 15th annual Swartzlander Basketball Benefit Game.
The proceeds from this year's event went to Jon Hershberger and his family. Last July, Hershberger was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of cancer. While donations are still coming in, the $26,518 raised after event expenses will help with current and future medical costs.
With the month of April -- and hence the seasons of spring and summer -- just over the horizon, Culverâs economic year is, in many ways, just about to get started. With that in mind, members and leaders of Culverâs Chamber of Commerce are gearing up for another busy year themselves, says Chamber President Dawn Brockey and Vice President Tony Sellers.

PLYMOUTH â Marshall County police are reporting that 21-year-old Kristan Kye Wright hasnât been seen since she left her grandmotherâs house around noon on Friday, March 11.
Wrightâs grandmother stated that she said she was going to work, but she never showed up at the Plymouth restaurant where she works as a waitress. No contact has been made with relatives or known friends since then.
Police said there is no indication of foul play and they believe Wright might have left on her own free will. However, they say want the publicâs assistance in finding her.

PLYMOUTH â âBuild it and they will comeâŠâ was the admonishment in the movie Field of Dreams and it appears another sport in the area has taken that to heart.
Local soccer players may have a new place to hone their skills if the final questions can be worked out between Marshall County and the Plymouth Travel Soccer Club, which will include the Plymouth Recreational Soccer league as well. Curt Feece made a second trip to speak to the Marshall County Commissioners about building a new soccer complex on land the group hopes to lease from Marshall County.

WALKERTON â Millie Elnora Castle, 106, of Walkerton and South Bend, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011.
Millie was born July 13, 1904 to Frank and Cakrintha (Jackson) Coil in Johnson Township (LaPorte County) Indiana. Nov. 2, 1942 she married Chester B. Castle in Washington, Ind.

PLYMOUTH â George âPee Weeâ Childs, 88, of Plymouth, died at 3:16 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2011, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla; sons, John (Susan) Childs of Plymouth and Bill (Patricia) Childs of Kankakee, Ill.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Zerkel of Kankakee.Â
A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. (CST) Friday, March 25, at the Lacon Cemetery in Lacon, Ill., with full military honors.
