Hodges named All NLC

PLYMOUTH — The 2010-11 All-Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball team has been announced, and Plymouth senior point guard Houston Hodges was named to the first team, while freshman Mack Mercer was given honorable mention in his first season with the Pilgrims. NorthWood seniors Michael Paul and Cameron Williams were also chosen for first team honors, while junior teammate Jakyah Qaiyim was named to the honorable mention list.
Warsaw’s Doug Ogle was named NLC Coach of the Year after guiding the Tigers to a 6-1 conference record and their second-straight NLC title.

KNOX — Donald Ray Jones, 67, Knox, died Saturday, Feb. 12 at his residence.
He is survived by by his wife Nancy; sons, Michael Ray Jones of Walkerton and Billy Odell Jones of Plymouth; daughter, Vicki Sue Jones of North Judson; brothers: Leroy Jones, Bobby Jones, Roger Jones and Glendale Jones; sisters: Mildred Gephart, Shirley Jones, Pearl Fizzcell and Linda Pennock; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox.

PLYMOUTH — P.  Roger Hackett ,age 66, of Berkley Street, Plymouth, passed away at 7:47 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Saint Vincent’s Carmel Hospital in Carmel.
Roger was born Aug. 13, 1944, in Plymouth, to Donald P. and Myrtle A. (Scott) Hackett.
Roger was a member of the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos, and was the director of music at the church. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Roger and the former Pamela Mortimore were married in 1979. They have one daughter, Kelly Miller.

School's food service outlined

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth School Board heard a report on the school corporation’s food service at last night’s meeting.
Gloria Burnam, director of food service, presented an overview of the number of meals being served as well as mandates that will have to be incorporated into the food service with the passing of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The legislation was passed in December, 2010.
Burnam said the National Standards were updated after 15 years and the new compliances will have to be met in the school year 2012-2013.

Van crashes into barn

CULVER — A Plymouth woman was airlifted Tues-day after driving into a barn.
The Culver-Union Town-ship Fire and EMS were called to the scene at 15034 S.R. 17, on the north side of Burr Oak.
Connie Goad, 45, was eastbound on 15th Road, and as she approached S.R. 17, police said she was driving faster than the speed limit and became airborne — traveling about 30 feet before striking a concrete embankment. She then traveled another 50 feet in the air before crashing through a barn on the Overmyer Homestead.

Spa Day events planned at Miller's

In honor of National Spa Day, Miller’s Senior Living Community will host a community Spa Day Tuesday, Feb. 22. Spa Day is open to all area senior citizens on a first come, first served basis. Spa Day will include upper body massages, manicures, pedicures and a jewelry specialist will be on hand to clean jewelry and check for loose stones. The American Espresso Coffee Cart will also be available to all who would like to sample an espresso or other coffee drinks. This is free to all who participate. Spa Day hours run from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m.

College Goal Sunday Feb. 20 in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH — Nearly half of Indiana's college students qualify for financial aid, making student odds about 50/50 that they'll get some help to pay the bills. At College Goal Sunday, students will receive free help from financial aid experts in completing and filing the FAFSA. Area High School Seniors and their parents are encouraged to take advantage of this College Goal Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at Plymouth High School.

Myers leads CMA over Plymouth

CULVER — Jermaine Myers surpassed the 1,000-point mark, and he gave his team a big lift along the way.
Myers scored 24 points on red-hot shooting while dishing out six assists off the dribble and racking up a team-high six rebounds, and the 6-1 Culver Military Academy junior from Ontario, Canada moved to 1,016 career points as the Eagles claimed a 46-36 victory over Plymouth at home Tuesday.

BOURBON – Triton boys basketball head coach Jason Groves needed just three words to describe his team’s win over Rochester Tuesday: ugly, ugly, ugly.
The numbers certainly bear him out.
Despite a possession-oriented tempo the two squads combined to commit 38 turnovers — many of the unforced variety — and both missed critical fourth-quarter free tosses and struggled on the defensive glass.
